Too much of everything
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
So typical for an American movie that takes place in Canada and they know jack about Canada. Its Nunavut Territory not Province. Idiots
Shot in Cape Town, the film is set in a remote part of Canada. Note the color adjustment to make the sand dunes look like Arctic snow! The sand is too fine to pass as snow, though. But hey, the opening scene is so awesome, I'll forgive them for that! Its nice to see Michael Gross back for another adventure, and he's looking fine! Even though the humor gets a bit silly at times, it was still enjoyable good fun. There's some really great scenes and effects here and the film had the potential to be so much more had the unnecessary humor not gotten in the way. It could have been a suspenseful thrill ride, but heck, this is a comedy horror after all. The slow motion action scenes were AWESOME! This was amazingly well done. The third act was an incredible adrenaline pumping ride with stunning action and effects. 'Tremors 6' should have gone to theaters instead of straight to video. This is a worthy entry in the series.
The last 2 Tremors movies (this one and Bloodlines) have been better than nothing. But they are both WAY far inferior to the original films in terms of plot development, characters and plain old story telling. There's really no excuse. The first 3 direct to video sequels and TV series of the 90s and 2000s make #s 5 and 6 look pretty lame. (and I can say this because I just watched all of them again). Whoever owns the rights to the Tremors franchise these days needs to get the original creative team--S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock-- back on the job. When they had control, the characters were all funny and believable and there was a new development with each film (Graboids, Shriekers, Ass-Blasters, etc). These new films seem like placeholders.
If you liked the 3rd tremors you'll like this one. Some of the monster anamation looks cheap but aside from that very entertaining
