Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
The original "Tremors" was a great movie. "Tremors 2" is a different movie than the first. The first was a mix of sci-fi and horror with a very light hearted atmosphere and plenty of comedy worked in. The sequel changes this formula significantly. "Tremors 2" is comedy first, before anything else and has a different feel than the first. So much so, that in fact at many times it's impossible to take the movie seriously at all - something the first movie was not guilty of. At any rate "Tremors 2" does succeed in this respect as being an effective comedy monster action movie. You'll have to have seen the first to really appreciate the movie, as much of the funniest scenes are based around what everyone loved about the first (Burt's military obsessions and new found paranoias, and Earl's personality).CGI is introduced to the series here. Fortunately it's only used very sparingly when the mini Graboids run or jump. Otherwise they're decent looking puppet creatures. These creatures take up the second half of the film. The original Graboids make a complete exit about an hour into the film and our gang is left to deal with the land walking creatures. Through a good story and some funny moments courtesy of the original writing team and good monster FX, this ends up being a very worthy sequel. Sure, it's not as good as the first film, but working with what they have, I'd say they pulled it off wonderfully.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
This isn't the worst horror movie sequel ever and I do appreciate the fact that they tried to change it up a little, this is still a pretty terrible movie that just fails to capture the feel of the first one. First off, they try way too hard to be funny. In the first one, the humor spoke for itself. They didn't to try and make it funny. It realized it was stupid and that's why it was good. Here, the attempts at comedy are painful and it all falls flat. Secondly, the acting is not very good. Granted they get better as the movie goes on, but in the first thirty minutes, every line of dialogue is delivered in this corny over the top way. It gets old real fast. Lastly, the filmmakers decided to introduce a sidekick to make up for the lack of Kevin Bacon. And they picked just about the most annoying sidekick they could find. Everything he does is stupid and annoying. The entire film I wanted him to eaten so I wouldn't have to endure his idiocy. Skip this sub-par sequel and go watch Halloween again. You'll have made the right decision.
Decent sequel to Tremors, one of my favorite movies from the '90s. This one has two characters returning from the first movie: Fred Ward's Earl Bassett and Michael Gross' Burt Gummer. The Graboids (the creatures from the first movie) are attacking an oil refinery in Mexico. Earl is called in to help get rid of the Graboids due to his experience with them. When things get tough, Earl calls in Burt to help.A big step down from the first movie but still entertaining. Ward and Gross are lots of fun. Christopher Gartin plays Ward's sidekick in this one. He's no Kevin Bacon. There's a little too much slapstick but overall it's an enjoyable movie. I can think of worse ways to pass 100 minutes.
Even without Kevin Bacon, I thought the second movie was just as good as the first.Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and the other actors were able to carry on from the first movie, and bring additional elements to the ongoing saga of the horrible Graboids that lurk under the ground. If anything, I thought the second movie was actually better in parts, because the creatures have evolved into something altogether worse than in the first film, and our intrepid heroes have to deal with it.I also liked how Fred had to move on without his sidekick, (or was it the other way around)Kevin Bacon, and now he is the one with a sidekick in Grady Hoover, who idolizes Fred as the "stud" Graboid hunter. And of course what can you say about Michael Gross? Just kills it here too.
