Insomnia is one of the Christopher Nolan's underrated movies from all the movies he's ever made. People think that Insomnia is one of the worst works ever of all his movies. Meanwhile, the critics loved this movie even Roger Ebert himself gave a 3.5 out of 4. For me, Insomnia is just a mediocre crime drama movie in general. There is nothing special and there is no characteristic that he often uses. The plot is easy to understand as well as the predictable ending, I think this is one that isn't bad either. The film doesn't use non-linear plots which he always does in his every movie. With three big cast who won the Oscars: Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank, Insomnia is one of those movies that isn't so bad as for what people say it and I find it worth to watch. After his successful and got a lot of attention because of Memento in 2000, Christopher Nolan then made a crime drama movie called Insomnia in 2002. His skill when making Inception movies did amaze many audiences during watching it even the ending has been still discussed until now. Insomnia is one of those movies that is so easy to forget by people who watch all Christopher Nolan movies. The premise is like his films in general similar to Memento where the two films have a main character that filled with a lot of pressure. In a nutshell, all Christopher Nolan's films can be simplified as main characters filled with pressure even if only partially. The film is also a remake of a Norwegian film with the same title in 1997. First of all, let's discuss what the film tells about. Insomnia is indeed a movie crime drama like the genre in general. But this is different from the others because it's not a movie about cat and mouse, a story which one the culprit is, or a totally unexpected plot twist.Simple it, we'll be more focused on the main character played by Al Pacino, as always his performance is great. His character was completely overwhelmed by the pressure, feeling guilty for accidentally killing his partner while he was deteriorating the perpetrator in a mist. Due to his inadvertence, he covered it and felt like a haunt so as not to fall asleep. By the way, I watch this movie in an insomniac situation considering this movie is also Insomnia. I liked his character that wasn't directly proportional to his work, just like Heat which also stars Al Pacino. In Insomnia, we are more sympathetic to the character who made a fatal mistake in his life which I mean everybody has ever made a mistake. We'll better understand his pain whether he deserves it or he is just like the killer or other bad people. In the end, we'll not see a happy ending as some of you would have predicted it.On the other hand, I also like the antagonist played by Robin Williams and his acting in here is the best of all his films because it comes out of his character that never looks like this. The character that played by Robin Williams is also nothing different from Al Pacino because both of them made an "unintentional mistake." After sharing the issues between the two characters, they both help each other from behind the screen but at the same time cornering each other.Hilary Swank is also the same with both actors, she is more opening to the performance in this movie as well although her character isn't described deeply in detail. For Christopher Nolan, I think it's his job to deal with the actors and the actresses. The cinematography he built in this movie is full of tension and has the meaning of everything. Like for example, he always shows a glare of light which the background in the film is said as a city without the sun.The score is great by David Julyan because of his builds all the performances into an affluent, cold urban feel. My only complaint which why this movie isn't well-known by many people in the scene and character details especially Robin Williams. Regardless his acting is good and neat, the introduction of this character seemed imposed at the beginning of his appearance. The ending is somewhat predictable and makes a conclusion that is a pretty pushed as well. The relationship between Will Dormer and Hap Eckhart is not particularly feels deepened even though will be discussed a bit in the climax. Hilary Swank has a role that isn't so important at the beginning but will be a conclusion that focus on this character. This film can be said as a floaty Christopher Nolan movie ever, not too serious to watch even can be enjoyed by everyone.Insomnia is one of Christopher Nolan's most underrated movies ever which this movie doesn't seem like his specific characteristic. The film is not too heavy to watch and doesn't need a high level of seriousness. Al Pacino and Robin Williams share a screen in this movie, with characters who share the same misery, accidents, and pressures they unintentionally make. Hilary Swank is also very good to get into the middle of the story. This is not a crime drama movie where we figure out the villain, but this is a story where someone is under pressure because of a fatal mistake he made. It's worth to watch if you guys want to enjoy a crime movie or a mild mystery.

What a fantastic mystery movie, well done psychological thriller, one of my favorite performances by Pacino, and Williams is outstanding as ever. But now after all this years I realize that this is Nolan's movie, no question why we get maximum of this. Swank is worth of mentioning too, she is excellent. 10 of 10 for the acting. Massively underrated movie.

...who remains, for long time after its end, like a smoke circle. the tension, pressure and need to escape from yourself. and the hunting , so different by other crime films. the admirable cast. and the genius of Nolan to propose a psychological war , using impressive actors for each role. a film remaining, for long time, in memory.

I was having trouble getting to sleep the other night and this came up on cable, I may have missed the first couple of minutes but I think I got the gist as it went along. Al and his homicide squad partner come up from LA (where their unit is under investigation) and assist Alaskan police on a murder case in mid-summer. Al never quite adjusts to the 24 hour sunlight but that's only one of his many issues. Swank does really well as the local smart, hard-working and appreciative help. Al gives a nice textured performance, everyone sort of has shades of this or that in this movie, as things progress we learn a little more about the characters and what led to the murder. At points Al's eccentric behavior may test credibility but the story moved along well, this is a serviceable cop drama.
