That was an excellent one.
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Jaws was the first film to do many things- the first 100 million grosser, the first blockbuster, the film that made Steven Spielberg into a household name. This film has entered pop culture lexicon and is just about a great movie that everyone has at least heard of. The fine thing about Jaws is that the shark isn't really the villain- the bureaucracies of the small town, the mayor- the human elements are the true villainous element which Speilberg so adroitly makes us ponder about, at least in the first half. Of course there is a shark and the chase by three men is the highlight filled with great monologues and fantastic sequences. If you haven't yet (shockingly) please see Jaws.
EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING , ARGUABLY STEVEN SPIELBERG'S BEST WORK
I love everything about this film. I have no idea how many times I have watched it, but I can almost recite the entire film from memory even if I leave it a few years before seeing it again.The 3 main characters are really interesting and believable. Such an amazing film could never get made these days as CGI, fast music and muscle clad beefcakes is all that's on offer.
Up until now I've only ever seen Jaws on the TV, and only in 4:3 aspect in poor quality. I've just seen it on Netflix. It is in proper aspect ratio, in good quality, anf my sound system is also doing it justice. The story and the acting is still just as great, but I've never realised just how good the film work is. By modern standards the film is a bit slow, but that is the only reason I gave it 9 rather than 10, and I'm sure that I wasn't fair in doing that. What more can you say than it has one of the lines in any film, ever. You know the one!
