This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
The movie really just wants to entertain people.
The film makers seemed unclear on the subject of human sexuality, also the film makers seemed unclear on the subject of how to make a good movie. It's actually a long list of what the film makers of House Of The Dead 2 seemed unclear on, let's get right to it : what things mean, what makes for a good movie vs. what makes for this movie, that acting might be a form of art, that directing a movie might be a form of art, that writing a screenplay might just be a form of art, what comedy is vs. what comedy isn't, what metaphors are...Its a much much longer list, those are just the first few points. Sometimes a movie is made because evil rules the world, House Of The Dead 2.
I'm pretty surprised by the extremely low score this has here on IMDb. I remember when I tried to watch the first 'House of the Dead' and stopped it halfway through because it was just too damn awful. So a while ago when this first came out on DVD someone had told me that it was a lot better then the first one, I didn't get around to watching it until just then...on late night cable. The movie is pretty much tongue in cheek it doesn't take itself too seriously. Take for example the library scene. Because of this, all the plot holes, the illogical happenings throughout the movie can be forgiven, as it is purely light entertainment. The archetypal military characters, were done well and fitted the feel of this kind of zombie film. The chauvinistic bald lieutenant had a great performance (which separates it from most cheesy horrors), especially his rant at the end. The banter back and forwards especially the moments concerning the bald chauvinist, could've been taken from a film that would've been taken much more seriously by the general film going public. The hardcore dancing/Circle Pitting zombies will also make any metal head/hardcore fan laugh, at least a little.Again, because it was tongue in cheek and didn't take it self seriously. 7/10(reviewed after first viewing)
Firstly, like everyone else, House Of The Dead was appalling.I've seen a lot of films and a lot of Zombie films to boot, and this film is a complete re-hash of everything i've seen already. The soldiers are a joke (except Hensen & Rodriguez) especially the Sarge, I actually wanted him to die!The saving graces that made this film worthwhile:1) the collecting of blood samples to find a first generation Zombie, not totally original, but haven't seen it in many films.2) the leading protagonists, who once the soldiers are gone make the film watchable.3) the zombie make-up, seen a lot worse.Note: Didn't Casper die in the first film?
When one of the stars of a movie is named Sticky Fingaz, you should know enough to stay away. Stay away. HOUSE 2 is just more of the same, this time with zombies overrunning a college campus (man, how that must have saved on money). As usual, the "zombies" are given no direction so speak of, and provided very little makeup or costuming. They look like the zombies in one of those endless Italian zombie cheapies from years ago. Which is to say, they don't look like the kind of zombies we know and love from George Romero and Dan O'Bannon zombie flicks. The folks battling the zombies are all nonactors who get to shoot guns and do little else. Some who have written here feel the sequel is slightly more focused than the original. All I have to say is I'm glad the sequel's director did away with the 360-degree pan shots that helped to ruin the first movie. HOUSE 2 is still just more of the same, which means a lot of nothing happens for 80 or 90 minutes. There is one set piece, involving soldiers tussling with a zombie football team, that might at least have been funny. It's not.
