Did you people see the same film I saw?
A waste of 90 minutes of my life
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
I liked this movie and i loved the plot. I found the script was original and the acting was above par. But WOW was the directing horrible!!! I can't imagine the actors were OK with the way it was run. I'm not giving any spoilers away but there were may parts in the movie i had to do a double take. It was kind of like watching a bad slasher movie. Like, don't do that!! and your're an idiot if you go there!! All in all if you like a story that where you are the antagonist finding out whats going on as the movie progresses with a bit of horror then you will like it.
I quickly browsed on the reviews and can't really understand the good reviews, but well everyone is entitled to his opinion. For me its quite simple, horrible acting, there is no real mystery, its a very predictable end, there are scenes that I even said: "this is really bad acting" it's not a very common sentence from me. In the other hand (let's see if there is something good) the story-line has a good passing, well it's pretty much it.TL;dr A group of people wake up with amnesia, with trust issues between them, they try to figure out what made them be in that place all together. In sum it's not worth it, "The Cube" is way better, and that one was much cheaper, for sure.
This one belongs in a closed grave! Golly it just goes on & on with crazy people attacking crazy people. And nobody can remember a damn thing. The beginning has a man in an open pit of dead people. Then he's out of the pit! Then he's back in the pit. Then he's out of the pit. Then he's back in the pit. And while this is going on there's no end of wacked out people acting like mad angry pit-bulls. It's obvious there has been a scientific experiment going on somewhere way out in the forest - what could go wrong. Well you find out at movies end and it's all an hour and 45 minutes you struggled or laffed through because not minute is scary.
OK straight to the point here...Open Grave is absolutely dire. I saw the trailer for it and thought that it looked like a really good, atmospheric psychological thriller. Amazing how a trailer can portray a movie to be what it's not as this film was none of what the trailer made it out to be.For me, the feel of the movie was basically a cross between The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later, but was nowhere near as good. In fact, it feels like it should be a crime just putting it in the same sentence as those two features. The film started off well enough, and it seemed like it could get better as it went on as there was plenty of opportunity for this, but just the opposite happened...it got slow, dull, and was non-eventful for the majority of the time.I've read reviews describing Open Grave as atmospheric & eerie. Well, those viewers must have watched a completely different movie to what I did because these elements were lacking just as much as the rest of the film. The cast, for the main part, was OK, and I think Copley is a pretty excellent actor, but even he couldn't save this and for me his American accent put me off as well. It would have been much better if they let him keep his South African accent and if you're in doubt about that, compare him in District 9 to this garbage. It's a completely different feel with his normal accent compared to the put on accent. As for the the twist at the end - if you could call it a twist - well, what an anti-climax that was. There are more twists in a game of chess than there were here. If the ending was better it might have redeemed the movie just a bit for me, but that was just as dull as the previous 90 minutes. This is definitely one to avoid but if you must watch it, then just be prepared for 1hr 40mins of boredom.
