Save your money for something good and enjoyable
The acting in this movie is really good.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
I would like to start off by saying how much the acting carried the movie. If I could rate this movie based on acting alone, I would give it 8.5/10. My problem lies within the story. Politics/propaganda aside, the story doesn't have much to go on and its about 2 hrs. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but I honestly don't get it. A nobody gets his legs blown off (yeah it sucks) but that somehow made him relevant? Relevant enough to be made into a movie? The story revolves around him and his relatives and gf. Oh and they got divorced last year so I suppose they could make a movie about that as well?? brb getting my limbs blown off in hopes of my normal life be made into a movie by some really talented actors.
This is one of the movies that really, honestly and without trying too hard will move you every time you watch it and on top of that will stick with you over your life. Tatiana Maslany and Jake Gyllenhaal are revelations and would both have deserved an Oscar nomination in 2018 if not both a Oscar win. It is beyond me how the Acedemy could possibly keep ignoring Gyllenhaal but I doubt they will be able to keep doing that seeing as Gyllenhaal's next movies look extremly promising. Back to this film though, it needs to be experienced is all I want to say, the real moments will blow you away and there is one line Gyllenhaal delivers towards the end that crushed me like almost no other before. It is in the catacombs at a stadium is all I'll say before going out on the field. This is a beautiful film that does not focus on the attack but on humans, real geniuine humans.
Great Movie, story was well told casting was good. The director did a great job of telling the story?
My wife and I watched this at home on DVD from our public library. It is a well made movie and the lead actors all do fine jobs. It isn't an entertaining movie as such, the tragedy of a marathon bystander getting his legs blown off followed by the long road back to some sense of normalcy. The family members featured here are vulgar types, often I wanted to reach in and punch the mom or the dad, I suppose it is authentic, I've never been around Boston blue collar people. They are hard to watch most of the time.Jake Gyllenhaal is his usual good self as the victim, Jeff Bauman, a worker at Costco who only goes to see the finish of the 2013 Boston Marathon because his on-off girlfriend is running and he wanted to show her he had some responsibility. She is played also very well by Tatiana Maslany as Erin Hurley. Perhaps the best is British actress Miranda Richardson as the mother, Patty Bauman, who is so irritating all the way through. She is the one I most wanted to punch.Anyway it is a worthwhile movie if a viewer wants a glimpse into what kind of background this injured person had and how he was able to overcome this tragedy and get on with life.
