Save your money for something good and enjoyable
Let's be realistic.
Excellent, Without a doubt!!
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is the story about a horse and a girl. the girl's father brings a broken leg race horse and takes care of it till it heals. after healing, they the horse to the race. I think this movie was short and sweet. After watching this movie I too want a horse as a pet and live in beautiful place like in the movie. I suggest everyone to watch this movie.
Cale Crane (Dakota Fanning) lives on a horse farm with no horses. Their farm is holding on with her mother Lily (Elisabeth Shue) working as a diner waitress. Her father Ben (Kurt Russell) doesn't get along with his father Pop (Kris Kristofferson). Ben trains horses for the rich owner Palmer (David Morse) who races his horse despite Ben's advise. The horse is injured and Palmer wants to put her down. Palmer fires Ben. Ben takes the horse for compensation. Partly through obsession, partly through skills, partly with love, and the hard work of everybody including Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez) and Balon (Luis Guzman), they bring her back to health. It's a roller-coaster ride when they find out that she is infertile. This is an unabashed sentimental movie. Russell is great as the strong solid father under pressure. It's a good move that his character is healing the horse for the money rather than any moral stance. Fanning is adorable enough and spunky enough. It's a terrific underdog story. The movie is full of familiar clichés. It's probably too overloaded with them but Russell and Fanning make them work most of the time.
Middling family fare concerning Russell and daughter Fanning aiding the rehabilitation of a lame mare called Sonador (anglicised to "Dreamer") who exudes an almost supernatural affinity with the young Fanning character, convincing her that she can not only recover to become a racing prospect, but win a significant race meet in spite of fierce competition from rival horse owned by David Morse's character.Elisabeth Shue is an added bonus to the mix as Russell's love interest, while veteran crooner and sometime actor Kris Kristofferson plays Russell's estranged father, rebuilding the bonds long broken with the mutual investment in the enigmatic mare. It's very Disney-esque entertainment standard and tone, strictly mild family fare not so much a horse racing picture as a story about second chances and underdogs making good against the odds. Some nice touches and also good to see Luis Guzman in a rare non-menacing role as Russell's faithful stable-hand.
Saw this movie in November 2008 for the first time. Makes my eyes water and makes me feel good, real good every time. Contrary to what some folks claim, I didn't know what was going to happen from one moment to the next and there is surprise and suspense throughout. Loved the music and the dialogue. This movie doesn't rely on foul language, sex, violence or props like constantly ringing telephones. It's just a decent, well made, beautiful movie that reaches for goodness and delivers. When I'm sad or down I watch Dreamer because it never fails to make me feel good. But if you're out of touch with your feelings, hard hearted or cynical, you'll be disappointed. Thank you John Gatins for winning the "Triple Crown" with "Dreamer", my new favorite film."Rags to Riches" the first filly in 100 years to win the "Belmont Stakes" in 2007 is pregnant by "Giants Causeway" the real life colt of "Mariah's Storm" the horse who is the inspiration for "Dreamer".
