Excision
Alienated teen Pauline struggles with the pressures of fitting into high school, pleasing her mother and a burning desire to lose her virginity. With a grotesque curiosity for the darker side of life, Pauline is considered a social outcast by everyone around her. Enticed by flesh, she retreats into her own fantasies and hopes to become a great surgeon - that is, if she doesn't go insane first.

Pretty Good
Better Late Then Never
Beautiful, moving film.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
If you want to see another repetitive, boring, CGI bloated movie, this masterpiece is not for you. However, if you want to (safely?) experience the terror of your not-so-average teenage girl whose suffering is severly inflicted on others and who is disturbed with serious psychosis, then look no more, you should definitely see this one.
A quite bizarre and uneven movie that whilst not all bad is certainly massively overrated on this site. The main character of Pauline is terribly played by someone who has clearly never been awkward or an outcast, it's a distracting, unbelievable pantomime of gurning and over the top nihilism. This could and should have been reigned in and allowed to simmer and explode. Others who review this film seem to rate this performance as something special but it's not, it's actually the films weakest part. The characters behaviour would have been addressed and confronted a long time ago but is seemingly ignored by every oblivious idiot until far too late. This is made more apparent by the performance of the rest of the cast which is downplayed and understated, whilst this may be a conscious decision it certainly wasn't a good one. It removes all art from the movie and leaves it clearly in the trash pile. Not a bad thing for a film of this type but the film wants you to believe that there's more here. There's not.The film itself is well shot, it looks and feels expensive, which is testament to the filmmakers. It may have been better served without this level of gloss but it's impressive. Again this may have been a conscious decision, but this film is trash and instead of revelling in that it tries to move away from it. It has nothing to say and an unbelievable plot and characters yet it portrays itself as something deeper. Had Pauline played people off against each other instead of being so openly dramatic it could have added a level of intrigue into the proceedings. Instead we get a couple of hours a teenage Bart Simpson staring through her oh so greasy hair.
If you're a fan of sexualized hyper-violence (you know who you are), then this movie is a great find. Pauline is funny, relatable, and obviously troubled in the goriest of ways. Even though her delusions get more sick as the film progresses, you're still always on her side a little bit. Also, her prayer scenes were comedy gold. I can't recommend her enough as a character, mental illness and all. She is similar to the title character in the movie May, but I think even better. It's surprising to me this movie is not more widely acknowledged as a gem. There are some gruesome (though not particularly believable) scenes, so it's definitely not for the faint of heart. But if you can handle your gore you should have no problem with this film. This movie could have just been a shock flick, but the writing made it so much more than that. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I adored this movie and I hope to add it to my personal collection asap.
Richard Bates Jr has done an amazing job with this movie I cannot understand the negative reviews. Its a movie I guess many who don't have a strong stomach can handle but its not over the top gore it has a background story. The movie covers many issues.. I wouldn't say its a horror more a psychological dark humorous movie. Its based around Pauline, a acne scarred social outcast 18 year old who dreams of being a surgeon... So much so her dreams are graphical, torturous and some necrophilia. She is not the perfect student and likes to play her classmates off against each other and labelled weirdo. We also mainly focus on her family life her mother Phyllis who's an overpowering controlling woman whom Pauline wants to get affection from, Dad Bob is stuck in between and under the thumb and her younger sister Grace the apple of her mothers eye ad slowly dying from cystic fibrosis Of all the people in her life Grace is the only one she cares for and wishes her mother was dying instead From the start of the film we view Pauline a weird teenager who just is a little strange.. but then her character gets darker questioning her mentality and her dreams get more vivid This isn't for the faint hearted there is a lot of gore but in my opinion its not pointless gore it fits in the delusional dreams The ending is the most pivotal scene.. I wont give it away but its shocking and will have you question is there really something wrong with her or is Pauline acting up?
