Excellent but underrated film
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Jack Ketchum is one of my MUST read authors and this is why. His movie had strong characters...but not necessarily nice people! He is twisted and this movie was a pleasant surprise!
Well, I like horror movies and ofc Iam acquainted with Revenge-Slasher-Whatever-U-Call-Them-Movies. This movie delivers some disturbing stuff and gory scenes too but somehow I never could take this movie "serious". Watching the end-scenes - the wild woman killing the bad guys of the sick family I was just laughing my best piece off, somehow the whole stuff took for me the path of comedy. Another thing I find very misplaced is the soundtrack. All those folk/rock-stuff should sound cool or whatever but simply took out everything serious on some of the scenes, especially the torture-scenes - that kind of music didn't work for me at all and it added to me a lot to this "feel of being funny". So whats left to say - the actors did well, the story meh, but with a nice twist at the end, the whole movie imo trying to be sth special and disturbing but imo this movie is more of a comedy/parody of the genre, compared with a movie like the Frontier(s) (which I rated 6) I give this one a 4 with a tendency to 5. Lots of other movies of the genre are more gory, more disturbing, more whatever. An okay one time watch - but only if u like the genre.
This movie started out quite well, and it does have some rather disturbing moments to it. But about two-thirds into the movie it just got too much and the movie went downhill at lightning speed, at the point where Belle confronts Chris.Story-wise then certain aspects of the movie were just amazing and rather interesting, despite the brutality and absurdity of it all. But at the same time there were just stuff that was so far out there that it was bordering on being stupid."The Woman" is a character-driven movie, and that is the strongest point of the movie. And a movie like that is all-dependent on some serious acting performances. And to that point it should be said that all actors and actresses were doing really great jobs. Most outstanding and memorable was Pollyanna McIntosh as the feral woman, and also Angela Bettis as Belle.I had initially expected more from "The Woman", because I was told that it was a brutal and great movie. And now having seen it, I am somewhat disappointed with the movie. It should be said that this is not your average style of horror movie, and that is one of the strong points to the movie. And without ruining the ending, but wow, seriously? Are you kidding me? You just have to see it for yourself...
Either i'm missing something here or the reviews here are more than a little odd. This films dreadful. I wanted to slap the daughter around myself half way through the acting was so one dimensional. That's something for me when i cant usually spot bad acting. The pacing of the films muddled and is so full of plot holes you'd be mistaken you were watching a bad 70's soap opera. Its bad, very bad and if you don't believe me watch it. You to, will be scratching your head at anything over 5 for a review. The characters are very flawed and don't seem to really know who they are. Ironically, except the teacher who's done over before shes had a chance to and the feral one. At one stage i'm wondering why after the protagonist loses it why on earth someone wouldn't call the Police, not just once, but several times. Its comically bad. The end? Haha, i save reviews for films that have left me angry that someones had the audacity to release. Watch it.
