I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
While the first movie of this series "The Collector" had such a dark toned scenario, story, and cliffhanger ending, I myself felt that it's sequel "The Collection" lacks the amount of both credibility and creativity to make a much better storyline that surpasses the first movie. The movie also counts with an amount of unnecessary gruesome scenes in my opinion. I was also hoping that we'd get to know more about "The Collector" himself, what does he achieve by doing all of this, though we get a little tease at the end with Arkin telling some things about his past. The last scene made it up for just some seconds, though as expected, we got a cliffhanger ending with "The Collector" trapped in his own coffin by Arkin. Not to mention that throughout the whole series there's been more questions than answers formulated. But nice try nonetheless.
When in the first 15 minutes of a horror movie you are expected to suspend your disbelief to a herculean degree, it doesn't bode well for the rest of it. Sure there is good gore but there's been better and the rest of the ridiculousness and tired boring clichés made me roll my eyes. If you have a lazy Sunday afternoon and you've watched all the good horror movies out there and already have a Netflix subscription, then go for it. Otherwise, there are better things (and better movies) to use your time on.
The Collection (2012), sequel to 2009's The Collector, is actually better than the first movie. I liked it better because the characters were better, had more depth, and I cared more about what happened to them. The survivor that got captured at the end of the first movie stars in this one as well. I really like his character and the actor plays him well. Being completely honest, the acting in this movie isn't top notch all the time, but it wasn't like cheap horror movie level. I really liked the main actress and her character. Her character is one you'll definitely want to root for and the actress that plays her is very talented. The plot is interesting, it's pretty different from the plot of the original. The plot this time around is more of a hunt him down type of thing. This one takes it to a new level, more people are involved and it's more intense if you ask me. I liked that the filmmakers took things to a new level with the intensity. You definitely will not be bored at any point during this movie. The writing is alright, I mean no one should expect perfect writing in a movie like this, the dialogue suffices. I do suggest both this movie and the first. If you wanna have a horror movie night that'll entertain and keep you on the edge of your seat, then I'd suggest these movies. 8/10 for The Collection.
(39%) I wasn't too sure if this was the original (which I haven't seen) or the sequel, but to be honest I really don't think it matters in the slightest; though why didn't they just call it "The collector 2" is beyond me. What we have here is a rehash of 80's slasher gore mayhem, only the killer here wants to kill everyone he possibly can get his claws on, not just a select few teens. Most of the film takes place in a dark, grim building in or at least near a town/city that appears to be a magnet for many, many disco kids. Only when the collector strikes not one of them appears to make a swift escape. Plus the fact there's always one person outside every night spot throwing up into the street, so couldn't they raise some kind of an alarm after hearing their friends getting chopped up from inside? You can tell this is from some of the minds of the later Saw movies, not because it is shocking or scary, but because it's just so stupid. At certain parts you wonder how nasty is it going to get, well the answer is not really all that much. Sure there's some blood and gore, but this is too low rent Hollywood to get upset about. Even thought this isn't very good, I'd still kind of like to see the original, which is at least something positive to say.
