It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

I don't know whether this is just because I'm hungover and therefore less patient than usual but I couldn't stomach any of the characters in this film. The mother is so selfish: I mean using the school discussion to try and get dates, really?! Holly is completely unlikeable, I mean does the best friend ever get to speak unless it's to do with Holly's selfish plan. Don't even get my started on the younger sister. The entire family annoyed me.A positive note I did like the supporting characters, like the boyfriend and the waiter for a bit of comic relief.I just was disappointed so much by the mother the entire time with her 'If I can't find a man I have to move attitude' that I couldn't be happy for her.Anyway I'm ranting, but I wouldn't recommend this film anymore. Not even Duff fans. I mean I love Chris Noth and even he couldn't save it.

I chose "The Perfect Man" from several DVDs borrowed from my library to pass some time. I usually shy away from "girlie" flicks, but this seemed worth a look. I'd heard of Hilary Duff of course, but this was the first time I caught her on film. The plot was good, with a fine, realistic ending. Production values and directing seemed tops. Chris Noth gave his usual impeccable performance, and Heather Locklear's work on the film is impressive. The surprise for me was the amazing Vanessa Lengies! This young woman's work was on par with Chris Noth's. Both came across as real people, not actors.I do hope that Ms. Lengies finds more recognition, and certainly more work. Her performance brings to mind the unabashed work of the young Barbra Streisand. Bravo!

Love stories never change, this one plays mix up to a satisfying conclusion. Hillary Duff, whose performance is above par, works tirelessly at trying to keep her mom (Heather Locklear) happy and engaged in a fake relationship. Chris Noth, Big Guy from Sex And The City, is the adviser/cupid/love interest in this inventive comedy. The director has thought about casting, Locklear as an excessive dater. Noth as an acetic restaurant owner, and Duff as a cupid who is unsure about what she's doing. The cast is well put together, especially, The Styx Band, whose hits lace this film like whipped cream. "Lady" is sung on the streets of brooklyn, "Babe" becomes a hand holder and Mr. Roboto becomes a true Hoboken spectacle.

To my dismay, this was a good movie! It was funny, incredibly cute, and super underrated! The critics described this movie to be: Perfectly dreadful, 1/10, and "How many blonds does it take to make a crappy movie; apparently 3! And I believed them! I was so naive at that time! But when I was in Newfoundland my aunt had burned this movie and my older sister wanted to watch it. I just said whatever and I thought I would fall asleep. I didn't. I really liked the character Amy because she was very funny and very pretty. This movie had a great plot! I loved this so much we both watched it again. Yes, it was great! This also had one great screenplay. I liked how Holly wanted to make her mom happy so she did that, which was wrong, but nice. I also liked the friendship between Holly and Amy. I could definitely see a life long friendship between the two because they really seem to get along and they became great friends. And I really thought Vanessa's(Amy's) fake New York accent was pretty convincing. She pulled off the role of a New Yorker, when she is really a Canadian. The character Zoey was adorable and I just wanted to pick her up because she was so cute. I really liked Lenny too. He was pretty funny and he was somewhat annoying. If I was the mom, I wouldn't date that guy in a million years! I know that sounds shallow but it really isn't, Lenny is funny but is still a little bit of a cocky jerk. Even though he has nothing to be cocky about(except for his hot ride) I would probably go out with Ben(if I was like 30 years older!) because he is a nice man. I was impressed with this film and you will be too. Rent it, please.
