Amanda Bynes and John Schneider (her Dad) try really hard to make their characters believable and understandable. Nearly everyone else, and most especially Sara Paxton as Rachel, is a one-dimensional cliché. The Magic Mirror (antecedent to Facebook) was a wonderful touch. But it always involved Rachel - and she was always so relentlessly over-the-top, only a nine year-old could enjoy the mannerisms and "subtleties" of her performance. The entire college set-up and production values looked like it was done on a sound stage. As for the nerds/dorks/outcasts, the dwarfs (the original one-adjective characters) had more dimensionality. There are a few cute lines and cute scenes, but it is just way too over-the-top. I'd be embarrassed to show it to my 12-year old grandson.

Don't get me wrong, this movie is enjoyable. I really like AB; she's rather talented and enjoyed her performance in She's the Man. This movie is a clean comedy that is actually enjoyable by all ages. The acting was great, the plot, not so much. The plot is extremely predictable. The geek stereotypes are insulting, I really doubt any girl can be as shallow as the sorority and the Snow White references weren't really subtle. They make her work on a Mac just so the hacker can feed her a "Poisoned Apple"(yes he says that). I mean come on, the idea of a movie reference is that it's SUBTLE. You don't explain it, people figure it out. But regardless the actors did make the best of a bad situation and did make it enjoyable but the plot itself really annoyed me. 4/10

Retelling of Snow White on a college campus as nerdy girl raised by construction workers goes to her dead mothers old college where she runs afoul of the sorority and is forced to take refuge with seven "dorks", uber geeks like herself. Cute family oriented movie isn't bad but is a bit too artificially constructed to be fully moving. Still I have to give any film that name checks Usagi Yojimbo as a badge of geekiness points. Wait for cable and watch it with rug rats (No pun intended).I do have to speculate about the casting of Amanda Bynes (who did Rugrat voices) who is fine here, and wonder did she get the job because of her talent or because of her good looks. I know its a piggy thing to say but there was more than once I was wondering about how they had her look-which while not overly slutty did seem to scream SEX OBJECT. Granted it will keep the dads happy, but was it really necessary?

Honestly...at first I looked at the front cover and thought hey, this looks like a crappy chick flick being my sisters have already seen the movie twenty times, and the cover just looks corner. So right away the movie starts off slow, introducing who she is, what she does, her mom died when she was nine, yada yada. It picks up when she has to fill the kappa legacy, her getting kicked out and sent to Vortex to chill with her nerd friends, and the election.I soon realize with all the brilliant names like White Witchburn and Prince that this movie was all about a modern day Snow White. The dorks are the dwarfs, the virus is the poisonous apple, the "Hi Hoes", it really had a lot of cameos from its model film. The message this movie portrays is a positive one, and you will laugh a lot along the way...especially if you've experienced college, are doing so now, or on their way, it's fun for everyone."I've never had sex, but I really, really want to!"
