I love this movie so much
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The stargate features prominently in this movie. That's as it should be.As with the first made for TV movie, this one carries a sense of mystery and wonder not seen in seasons 9 or 10 of SG-1.It's 8 rather than 10 because of a few problems. It's easy to kill off main characters, in slo mo no less, when everything will reset. The second problem is the cop out on having characters meet themselves. Key people are killed - Jack in a lame way - to ensure they don't meet themselves, while others are conveniently out of the way. Cheap! The final problem is a slow middle. When Cam, Sam and Daniel are forced into normal lives, without contact with each other, the movie slows to a crawl. It's as if the writers needed a little bit more, so they added useless padding. The movie continued the tradition of killing Ba'al. He dies multiple times.Watch it.
I was almost a little disappointed. It was a big time film, with almost everything -- but it wasn't conclusive enough even on it's own, let alone for someone who's watched 10 years of stargate. As a part of stargate it was very good. As a final ending, and finishing note for 10 years, it was lacking. It didn't really answer my unanswered questions, you know - the one's you always watch every episode to see if some hint is revealed. The biggest disappointment for me was, that I've really missed Jack O'Neill (or Richard Dean Anderson) being a part of the series, and I was Thrilled when I saw he was in the credits for this one, but then he didn't even have a particularly prominent role. It's totally possible I'm just disappointed because this is the last ting, but I really wanted it to be huge, and make the series feel complete. But they were smart in terms of going back to the basics, and bringing us all back to the really good stargate of those first few seasons.
Be warned, there are Spoilers contained below regarding plot device of Continuum and commenting on plot device of some episodes of the series, including the series finale.OK it's great to have another installment of Stargate SG1, Ark of Truth nicely tied off the Ori plot line and we do get to see lots of oldie but goody characters make a return in Continuum but this is easily the 3rd and probably 4th/5th time that the good old 'Time' plot gets rolled out. You know what I mean, the old 'go back in Time to fight/fix whatever is going wrong' nugget.I mean I understand that writers run out of ideas over 10 seasons of Stargate but come on, again with the 'Time' plot?Overall though, it was another Stargate movie to watch and I dutifully watched it and by and large enjoyed it, mostly for seeing a parade of old characters pass by.If there is a 3rd movie let's hope they've shut the door on the Time plot device and thrown away the key and give us something fresh?
I found it completely entertaining. So much so that I will probably watch it again before the week is out! There was the "feel" of the show with the verbal interplay we have come to love from the characters, and with enough of the action and spectacle for a "big screen" feature. (Trying to keep the spoilers to a minimum) I loved the time travel angle, but most of all I loved seeing the team working together to solve the problem. The production company got some great assistance from our navy with the scenes near the beginning. I would love to see it in a theater!
