Black Death
As the plague decimates medieval Europe, rumours circulate of a village immune from the plague. There is talk of a necromancer who leads the village and is able to raise the dead. A fearsome knight joined by a cohort of soldiers and a young monk are charged by the church to investigate. Their journey is filled with danger, but it's upon entering the village that their true horror begins.

Fantastic!
Best movie ever!
I saw this on a rented DVD in 2010. A very underrated film shot on a small budget. The movie did a good job in showing the good and bad sides of human nature. Its a very dark, depressing film with a brutal n shocking finale. It is a very well-paced and thought provoking film. The acting is very well which helps you connect with the characters better. Sean Bean n Eddie Redmayne did a good job. Carice van Houten was enticing. There is a creepy tension throughout the film. The film has a strong, evil-smelling, grim atmosphere. The locations r appropriately beautiful, sinister, foggy and ancient all at the same time. Good work there. There is a constant feeling of dread n repulsion that the film manages to create. Good amount of mystery n tension throughout. The depiction of the plague was done well, the desolated environment, the creepy woods, the dead bodies, the un-ravaged village, really aided the haunting atmosphere the film attempted to invoke. As a viewer I genuinely got transported to the medieval time. Have enjoyed Christopher Smith's Traingle, Creep n Severance.
Expected a movie, instead it felt more like a Christian propaganda film. Extremely anti-climatic ending. The antagonist was difficult to discern if you aren't a Christian who perceives persecution from any person who doesn't think as you do. To everyone else who may view this movie, the protagonist are the ones trotting off into the woods causing trouble. The antagonist were just minding their own business, attacking only those who came to do them harm. Only reason I continued watching was to see what new and interesting way they had thought of killing Sean Bean. Since we all know there's no film mechanism in this world that can permit Sean Bean to survive a movie.
I love this style of horror film: slowly building suspense, subtle horror and a great story with lots of great atmosphere. Black Death is a medieval adventure horror that has very bleak aura with a very good story. I really love the medieval eye-candy (costumes and sets), cinematography, and just everything about the film! That is saying a lot because I am not into most modern day horror films but this film is one of rare gems in modern day horror movies. It's outstanding. All of the actors are superior! I have to say that Sean Bean is Boromir err Ulrich I mean. He's fantastic in these types of roles. Eddie Redmayne is fantastic in his role as Osmund the monk and John Lynch as Wolfstan is just as good! Just everyone in this film has done an outstanding job - very convincing performances. This is a hidden gem in a sea of modern day muck movies. I highly enjoyed this film and would love watch it over and over again.9/10
This film is another underrated masterpiece of medieval times. The story and it's characters are full of depths and all the actors live up to their part. Especially the two protagonists with Sean Bean in a role nobody else could play.Despite the horror the darkness and the grimm atmosphere this is a must see movie that keeps every kind of audience satisfied to the end. And until that end the plot cleverly keeps the audience constantly trying to guess if there is something supernatural around or if its all man's work.Puts a perfect mix of true medieval hard characters who laugh at the face of death against godly men, stirred in a plague striken country with a dose of different religions beliefs. Black Death is a film that never disappoints.
