Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

I skimmed across a review for this after watching Contagion and decided to have a butchers at the 'Uncut' version...Boy, was I in for a surprise! I haven't laughed so much watching a movie for years! HAHA!! This film is SO tacky & unbelievable that it's very good & watchable (like Sunset Beach) and the script (subtitled) was classic. The swearing is just right and in the right places..and often unexpected lol I have to say though, the film was fantastic until he went back to HK..then it kinda died down in the comedy but rose again towards the end, at least for me.Coarse, vulgar, graphic, depraved, no holds barred..if only there were more films like this out there! (I will be sure never to try 'Frog Rice' in my life! EWWW!!!)

Well hot on the heels of my pimping mini-review of The Untold Story comes.. The Ebola Syndrome.Well I'll start by saying that TUS and TES are very similar - both directed by Herman Yau, both starring Anthony Wong and really both have a similar premise. What sets this apart is Anthony Wongs self-destructive (or maybe...other-people destructive ) rampage certainly has a lot more dark humor.Where the more awkward comedy from TUS comes from the cops, Anthony Wong himself is the chief buffoon. However, along with the comedy elements, he is certainly more creepy and disgusting than in TUS (where he is simply more psychotic). The basis of the story is that Wong's character is on the run, gets a job an African restaurant, and contracts the flesh eating virus through nefarious means. Do not fret yet for Mr Wong, he is the one in a however-million people that spreads the disease without being affected by it. Being more than slightly deranged he causes havoc throughout the movie, murdering, raping and spreading the virus.I would rate this only slightly below The Untold Story, but both are essential viewing. Not for the squeamish or easily offended though.TTKK's Bottomline - Here is a section from the memorable quotes page on here - Kai San: With a butcher's knife in his hand he runs through the streets of Hong Kong in the brightest daylight and screams: Ebola! Ebooola! Ebooooooollllllaaa! If that doesn't want to make you see it, go back to watching The Fog remake...

Strictly for fans of Hong Kong Cat III exploitation, EBOLA SYNDROME is a sick, depraved exercise which has become a cult hit. One of the most distributed Cat III films (in the Western world, anyway), EBOLA begins in Hong Kong, where our anti-hero Kai is having quick sex with his boss' wife. When his boss walks in on them, Kai is urinated on by his lover and brutally assaulted. Never one to back down, Kai slaughters his boss and lover before attempting (and failing) to set fire to a young girl. Fast forward to South Africa, where Kai continues his deviancy while working in a restaurant in Chinatown. When he and his boss go to tribal areas to acquire cheap meat, Kai rapes a dying African woman, contracting Ebola from his victim. However, Kai is one of the few who can carry but not suffer the effects from the disease and proceeds to spread it to every man, woman and child he comes into contact with in a number of bizarre and downright-sickening ways. This is the overall tone of EBOLA, and lovers of PG-13 horror will be unimpressed and left mortified by the in-your-face atrocities the film depicts. There are no barriers - sexual violence, postmortem mutilations, cannibalism and aberrant sex is all covered in Herman Yau's audacious picture. A must for horror fans, EBOLA's sleaze and ultra-violence is the perfect cure for Hollywood's comparably-weak output.

Lurid, probably offensive tale of a guy who kills a family then flees when he is about to set the daughter on fire. Years later the grown-up girl meets the guy in South Africa complicating his life. As the guys life begins to spiral out of control he unknowingly contracts Ebola which he then proceeds to pass on a large number of people. (Good taste and the IMDb guidelines prevent me from going into more detail, but trust me its nasty) This is a really sick and twisted movie which is oddly enjoyable in a "I can't believe people made this" sort of way. Far from a movie for all audiences, keep the kids away, this is a movie for those who like exploitation films heavily laced with sex and blood. I like that sort of thing when well done, as it is here, so I'm in the group that thinks this is a gross out exploitation classic. Others maybe running for the hills not long after this film starts. The best way to know if this film is even a remote possible viewing choice for you, ask yourself how you feel about a movie called Ebola Syndrome. If the thought of a movie with that title peaks your interest then see this film, just be ready for a wild ride. If the idea scares you stay away.
