Let's get this straight. There is no Patrick Swayze in this movie. Abigail Breslin is not Jennifer Gray. The dance scenes are a little overly choreographed for my taste. This isn't as good as the original movie, and the remake of She's Like the Wind is pretty much garbage, HOWEVER, if you take this as a movie on its own... it isn't that bad. The expansion of Lisa Houseman and Mr. and Mrs. Houseman is nice. Breslin's Baby is wonderfully awkward in my opinion and is a more realistic bookworm/nerd. Billy Dee Williams is a nice addition to the cast as the band leader and it touches nicely on the changing views of race in the 60s. Was the singing necessary? No, but it makes it interesting and just different enough. Unlike a lot of people I knew when I watched the original that Baby and Johnny didn't wind up together, so the ending change isn't sad for me and is another nice addition to the story. This will never beat the original, but for a TV movie it's enjoyable. And I get to hear Breslin sing again, something that I haven't been able to enjoy since she did Janie Jones nearly a decade ago. All in all, I enjoyed it.

I do not even know where to start with this. I am genuinely still in a mix of disgust and shock that they have desecrated dirty dancing with this appalling knock off. I just do not understand why they have not only completely altered the story line but also cast it terribly. I find it hilarious that they cast casper smart in a non dancing role when he is such an amazing dancer and I really cannot believe they cast abigail breslin as baby. Abigail was clearly too large for the role and lifts and couldn't dance throughout even after 'being taught' by an unworthy and awful acted johnny. I also cant understand the musical aspect of it or why they tried to 'make it stand out from the original' by completely changing the plot so it was unrecognizable. The whole point of remaking dirty dancing is so that we can not only reminisce when we watch it of the amazing original but we can also experience the revamping of an old classic with a new and current casting, none of which were even remotely done. They should have also stuck to the original soundtrack and not created their own version so that it not only sounded awful but it disgraced the classic songs we remember fondly. I am angry that I have watched it as it will now pop into my head each time I watch the actual dirty dancing film but its only good quality is it really does make the original look and be even better if thats even possible. I think the people behind this failure should be ashamed and disgusted at what they have done.

In fact I'm thankful for 3 hours movie. Why?? because I laughed so hard! I just watched it now on TV, six months after they released it. I'm not an easy laugh person but I swear with this joke-parody-remake I had the time of my life laughing so hard. Well it was half laughing, half awkward - painful to see in a lot of scenes. I had the need of stop looking at the screen sometimes for the embarrassing moments the main characters were playing. Abigail is the worst of the movie. It looks like the whole production is mocking her by making her ugly, silly, stiff, NUMB! I almost felt pity for her. But lets not forget she's a grown up woman now, enough to auto-evaluate herself and recognize she's not in the mood or with the skills to play that role. She looked like on drugs, as I said, numb and slow, like she wasn't completely on her mind... And it's not because of her weight, it's not about if she's fit or not, because we all have seen Hairspray and the main character was a chubby, fatty girl, and she Nailed it! come on... it's not about the body, it's about the attitude. Did they do it on purpose, about dressing and make up them all horribly?? Specially Abigail?? Well, they succeed, Congratulations! And thanks again for the laughs. Now I know what to do every time I feel sad or depressed. Just watch it, but not with a serious thought, only as an absurd parody such as Scary movie, and laugh. Who would have thought they were trying to awaken our sense of humor!P.D. They had to be, in a parallel Universe were the whole and last product movie seemed right.

Dirty Dancing 2017 Recap (just a few notes): 1. Why did I do that to myself?2. Watched the entire thing with a "what the f***?!" look on my face.3. Final, iconic!!!, scene - ruined. Utterly and completely ruined. The one scene that is all about Baby and Johnny was filled with other characters who have no business being there!4. Casting - horrible! Breslin may be a talented dramatic actress and what not, but oh dear lord, she was a bad choice for Baby! Grey's Baby was innocent and sexy and smart all at the same time; a clumsy mess who blossomed into this wonderful dancer. A pleasure to look at! Breslin's Baby was a clumsy, boxy, needy, crying mess throughout the entire movie! There was no wonderful transformation! And her attempts at being sexy and sensual just made me uncomfortable. The sex scene with Johnny was excruciating to look at. The two actors just don't fit!5. This movie is a remake. My question is, was this intended to be the "chubby remake"??? Has society lost its mind with this whole PC thing that the iconic character of Baby, and even of her statuesque mother, had to be chubby??? Many roles can and maybe even should be played by a woman with a little bit of weight on, but not this role! Not Baby! But, at the very least, if you decide to go in that direction, get a curvy girl who can move, who is nice to look at!6. The parents got a story line of their own. Why? Why? Why? Why?!? What for? This movie is not about anyone except Baby and Johnny! Everything else is either "facilitating" to their story, or "background noise".7. To sum, it feels as if the creators of this remake sat down, took the script of the original movie, and went: "OK. Let's f*** up 50% of the good stuff, let's throw out the other 50% of good stuff, and let's put in new stuff that suck".I'll admit - I love Dirty Dancing. I watched it way over 10 times. I know many scenes by heart. There is not one thing wrong with this movie. Yet I never considered myself one of those crazy "don't dare say a bad word about it" kind of fan. When I learned that they were making a remake, I thought to myself "that's a bad idea", but unlike many die-hard-fans, I knew I was going to watch it. Out of sheer curiosity, if nothing else. I told myself "how bad can it be?" I was wrong. It can be very bad. Excruciatingly bad. Don't watch it. Don't do it to yourself. I just hope that young people who will watch it, will watch the original one, as well.
