Kickin' It Old Skool (2007): Dir: Harvey Glazer / Cast: Jamie Kennedy, Maria Menounos, Michael Rosenbaum, David Hasselhoff, Christopher McDonald: Idiotic showcase plays as a reminder of 1980's dance and if this is to be a representative of that era then it is best that this film be kicked to the curb. Jamie Kennedy awakens from a 20 year coma and rounds up his friends to enter a dance competition. Setup is appealing before travelling that familiar ground that ends in a dance competition. Director Harvey Glazer has fun with the 1980's theme with flashy production, which amounts to the best aspect of this disappointing farce. Kennedy is travelling predictable ground following clichés faithfully. This is tailor made for his physical antics but offers no sympathy for a character who is basically too lazy to get a real job. Maria Menounos plays the typical high school crush turned dance instructor. She will, of course, fall for him because that is her only real function here. Michael Rosenbaum plays the typical high school bully turn dance show host. He will lose because he serves no other function and nobody gives a crap. David Hasselhoff makes an appearance because he seems to represent all things 1980's. Nice 1980's dance references may bring viewers that remember the period into a time warp the film is so juvenile that perhaps viewers should be kickin' the film. Score: 4 / 10

I wasn't going to write a review but I had to do something when I discovered IMDb has nothing lower than 1 star.I am absolutely floored by the fact that 455 people gave this movie 10 stars. I can only assume that they were investors who are trying to salvage whatever they can by tricking naive readers into going to see this total disaster. I caught this on cable (nothing else on) and my jaw dropped minutes after it started and I kept watching because I truly could not believe it could get worse. Man, was I wrong! I had seen the previews, thought it had potential and considered seeing in a theater. Pfffew. The scenes with Maria Menounos are priceless. She absolutely deserves some kind of award for that performance. In the same way IMDb needs to add a zero rating for this specific movie, the Oscars need a brand new category for the role of Jennifer in Kicking It Old Skool. In fact, I've just decided to coin the acronym KIOS and use it whenever I see someone who is acting the way Maria acts in this movie.I feel sorry for anyone who spent any money watching this movie. And to the 455 investors, your 10 star ratings were totally KIOS.

I wasn't expecting too much with this movie, but even at the beginning with the title scroll brought back some memories of being a kid in the 80's. I'm not sure which film the people who gave this film a 1-2 saw, but I was laughing throughout... perhaps they were really old people who fell asleep when the lights went out or were too busy babysitting their young 'uns to enjoy the movie. Sure, it had a bit of guy humor in it, but come on, Jamie Kennedy's in it... what did you expect??? OK, back to the movie... too funny, the dance scenes had some of the majors from the Red Bull Duel on the Floor competition, if you hadn't seen it you're in for some crazy moves! Just watching Jamie foolin around at the beginning was hilarious. Acting was pretty good for what Hollywood's been cranking out recently, music was tight and had a lot of old school beats in it, and it was stupid/crazy funny in many scenes.Bottom Line: If you grew up in the 80's, you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not seeing this movie; it's worth it for all the off-the-wall references you'll get and well worth the chuckle. If you liked Jamie's off-beat comedy "Malibu's Most Wanted," then you'll like this one even more. Finally, if you like to see crazy (and many silly or just plain stupid) moves on the dance floor, check it out. I'm gonna see it again a few times! Peace out, yo! ;)
