It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Barefoot is a different kind rom-com, but it is a rom-com none the less. It uses themes most wouldn't normally think of when writing a rom-com but it works none the less mental health is always a serious issue and remains so in this movie. The main actors in the movie I'd never heard of before but both give strong and convincing performances. I like the story line along with the twist that really makes the movie that much better. I have now watched it somewhere around 10 times and will watch several more times I'm sure. If you want a movie you can watch with your family or to help with the setting for a date night this will work. One of the best I've seen it just works.

How many times has this 'igganunt' story been hashed out? Smart(?) handsome young man falls in love with a mentally disturbed yet beautiful young girl. Everybody cheers for the stupid chick and everybody loves the young handsome man because he has taken the 'igganunt' mentally disturbed beautiful young girl into his love starved heart. Think of that piece of crap '50 First Dates' . Why did I watch this movie? The girl Daisy (Evan Wood) belongs in a special institution for the mentally insane and he Jay (Scott Speedman) is about ten minutes from death because he has borrowed from the underworld to cover his gambling debts. These two meet and hit the road! HOW ORIGINAL! Then retard Daisy just charms Jay's ever-so rich family so much that they just squeal with delight that Jay has bagged a fish. All ends happily with all the expected bumps in between. Oh, and by the way, it's called 'Barefoot' because Daisy has no concept of what shoes are.Oh, what a stupid movie!!!!

Some reviews on here criticise that the male protagonist learns that you can just continue behaving badly until it pays off. I think those reviewers miss the point rather spectacularly. They're demanding the formula they've come to expect - no doubt if the movie WAS as perfectly formulaic as they expect they'd almost certainly criticise this too.Personally, I felt that the male character DOES progress so the criticism is unwarranted on both levels.Personally, I loved this movie. Woods acting is wonderful and she portrays the naive female lead expertly. All the characters were believable. It's a lovely rom-com with less than perfect characters and which doesn't force morality down your throat... for this reason alone I consider barefoot refreshing.

Barefoot (2014)You want to like this kind of movie, with a slightly offbeat, romantic, comic plot. I mean, it's a feel good, laugh along intention—that falls a bit flat, especially in the first half. And it's no fault of the two leads, mainly Evan Rachel Wood, who plays a slightly disoriented young woman living for some reason in a mental institution. Across from her is a solid if generic Scott Speedman, who is a troubled rich kid now just a janitor at the same institution. The two, who meet of course unsuspecting what is going to happen, might not have chemistry, and they aren't simmering in any way, but they are compelling as individuals on the screen—that's a lot.The writing is clunky and forced on us, however, both in the overall idea and its lurches and turns and in the details, the dialog, the nuances (the few there are). This kills a lot of the good energy of the actors. Add some very blasé directing, patching together a few parts, glossing over some idiocy, and not quite leveraging the talent on hand, and you have a troubled movie. But shamefully so.And that's why I could keep watching. There is enough latent sincerity here it makes you hang on. And like what does in fact work. There are plot twists and character changes that are completely false, however, so the end result is a kind of let down, even if you feel good about the result at the same time.
