Dylan Dog (Brandon Routh) is a New Orleans detective who deals with supernatural creatures. Marcus (Sam Huntington) is his assistant. Elizabeth (Anita Briem) tries to hire him to investigate his father's murder but he refuses. He recognizes it as a werewolf attack. He tries to work with vampire leader Vargas (Taye Diggs). Marcus is killed by a werewolf.I like the concept of this supernatural world loosely adopted from an Italian comic book. I don't really like Routh as this character. He's more of a pretty face with comedic leanings. He needs to be more of a hard-boiled tough detective. The budget is also not big enough for its goals. It looks more like a B-movie. The action could be better. Overall, I like the concept but the execution is not great.

My friends told me to avoid this horror flick because, no pun intended, it sucks. But I found it very cheap in a tin box so I thought, well let's pick up Dylan Dog. Being based on one of the worlds best selling comics blends horror, humor and sophisticated storytelling set in the backstreets of New Orleans, sadly this flick doesn't work on the horror, it's laughable and childish, the comedy I'm still waiting for my smiling face and sophisticated storytelling, can't say it was hard to follow. The other reason I picked this up was for the writer Tiziano Sclavi who I knew from Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore (1994)). The comedy should lay in Dylan's companion Marcus (Sam Huntington), a zombie not happy with being a zombie. But it never worked for me. Being given a black arm it should have been funny but I was sitting there and thinking WTF. To be honest, the whole movie I was sitting there and thinking, get a move on, start with the story. Sure, we do see vampires and werewolves but it was never scary or even frightening. It can work, just watch True Blood and you will see that all creatures and humans can work out with the gore added and eventually nudity. Two things we never see here. There's of course some love between Dylan and Elisabeth (Anita Briem) but having made love and sleeping together she still wakes up dressed, really? It wasn't all that bad, the effects looked great especially toward the end but by then it's too late. Give the dog a bone because that's the only thing he will get from the viewers.Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 3/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5

I just don't understand why these producers needed to do this movie. Dylan Dog is not worldwide famous, so you are going to adapt it from the comics to a movie you do it only for the real supporters and they would like the most faithful transposition possible. And this way maybe other people would have been curious and willful to discover Dylan. Instead they made this bad movie, with a really awful ending, without soul, and totally distant from the atmosphere of the comics. I wonder also how the Italian editors and creators gave the permission to do it and why they didn't even try to make a good story. I think they should have written directly the script giving also strict rules to follow to be totally near the real Dylan. I think they gave up all of this for money and that's really sad

I don't know the comic or anything about this. I didn't even saw a single advertisement for this movie. This movie was just release yesterday in France on DVD and never in theater. The ambiance of the movie is dark, goth, it's most of the time at night. It's not about cheesy romance which is great. I understand people saying it's bad because not as the book. Books adaptation are usually not at all like books they are from so it's normal. Thats a pity it didn't have any advertisement and wasn't even release in theater in most countries especially for such a high budget movie. The scenario is not that great maybe but visual effect, humor, great (and handsome ) actors: for instance Peter Stormare which you can see on movie Spun as a very funny cop, made the movie very entertaining.
