Too much of everything
One of my all time favorites.
Absolutely the worst movie.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
'Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)' came with the opportunity to actually come up with some semblance of a plot, picking up with a seemingly dead serial-killer on the set of 'Part III', but instead just resurrects its villain and sticks him in the exact same story we've seen three times before. This time, it has the least connection to the canon and arguably the least competent screenplay, to boot. It's frustrating, too, because this had the potential to be something different. Being billed as the 'final chapter' gives it the perfect opportunity to subvert audience expectation and perhaps provide a more powerful ending that maybe even explains some of the unanswered questions from 'Friday's past. There are flashes of uniqueness in the form of a few characters who don't quite fit the preconceived stereotypes, but all of these slot into the same cut-and-paste formula from before and, as such, offer no relief from it. The fact that it's all so poorly done, even the violence which is more overt but now has an odd leer to it, just makes it an incredibly boring watch even when the long promised 'finale' finally happens just under halfway through the series. 3/10
With as incredibly infuriating it is to see Jason constantly getting back up regardless of what he gets hit or chopped up or burned with or whatever, the end was a relief. Though, just throwing this out there, 4 more movies left, I'm guessing hes still not dead. Oh well. Anyways, the movie was fairly decent, apart from a few scenes where you just kinda go "seriously?". Who honestly screams "hes killing me!" when violently being murdered? Just kinda seemed farfetched. I liked the second movie the best so far, but we'll see how well the rest go.
This has always been my favorite Friday The 13th movie. It's the first time the franchise truly realized how dumb it was, thus making it a fun, dumb, yet still scary 80's goldmine of gory horror fun! It has the best Jason, the best characters, and some of the best kills. It's nice to have characters that are actually likable and relatable, such as Cripsin Glover as the shy nerdy guy who's battling several social anxiety. Most of the other movies just have generic teenagers who are only there to get killed, but this is the first movie that actually tries to have interesting and ED characters that you want to root for instead of waiting for them to die. Corey Feldman as the kid is also a cool character and a nice change of pace. The kills are BRUTAL and have such a PUNCH to them. People don't just die, they DIE. People get tossed out windows and over balconies and get stabbed in the freakin face and broken in half of Jason's knee, it's all amazing! I will say the ending is a bit underwhelming, since this is supposed to be the final Jason movie and all (thank GOD we got more), but it's still a cool ending. If you gotta pick one Friday movie to watch, pick this one.
The Jarvis house in this film was used in many films since this was released. One television film called "The Christmas Wish" used the same home. They also used several other "Friday" locations so see if you can spot them. One that you will miss is "The Diner" from "Friday #5". There is a scene in "The Christmas Wish" where Neil Patrick Harris is standing by gas pumps. If you look hard enough you will recognize the location. Now "Friday #4" to me was lots a fun. He is an almost logical story and it delivers to chills and the kills. In this film Jason once again is killing people but he does die at the end. However he is later resurrected in "Friday #6".This film holds up and has a very good cast. IT is still one of the best of the series!
