The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

What started out feeling like a bad, British response to Wolf Creek, ended up feeling like a bad, British response to the already bad, American films; Captivity and Amusement.Bizarrely, while doing some research for this film, I found nothing but praise. It was low- budget, which is usually enough to find that everyone hates it, whereas I don't. In this case, it was a strange reversal, I hated it (not because of its cheap production values) because it was boring. The film is supposedly based on a "true story", but listening to an interview with director Adam Mason, it turns out this "true story" goes thusly; There was once a killer who dumped his victims in the woods. This movie is in the woods. Also the killer has characteristics that many other real life murderers could have. Yep, "could" have. So it's "based on a true story" in the same way that Titanic is "based" on the life and times of Marco Polo... You know... 'Cause there was a boat.I'd just like to reiterate that this film was woefully boooring. Because I believe that it's probably the worst thing that a film can be. Movies are, after all, filed under the category of "entertainment", so what sort of entertainment is it if it's not in the lest bit entertaining!? There's a couple of okay-ish things about it. The killer's not too clichéd, although he's so obviously based on Jigsaw, and not any real life killer. Also I think that happy endings are a cop out, this film does not contain one, so points there. But honestly, when you only have 2 characters, it'd be nice to see some damn character development! There's very, very little to this movie, so already I'm running out of things to say. This is not to somehow be mistaken for a compliment. Broken was just plain bad. Ending and beginning aside, there's nothing at all to it, other than annoyance. Ridiculous amounts of filler, it made me wonder if the guys behind it had any idea what they were going to do when they started rolling the cameras, it seemed more like "Ahhh, crap uh, um, you don't like this guy Ms. ActressLady, just run with it! And you! You're scared, so, be scared? Scream, yes, just scream, that can be your entire role for the next 20 minutes, only scream!"Boring. Boring. Broken. The only reason I didn't feel this film was a complete waste of time, was because I stopped paying attention half way through and started drawing a puppy. So it was only a waste of half my time.11%-Gimly

I decided to Google search for underrated Directors and I'm so glad I did since this is how I found Adam Mason's work. Mason is a magician turning very small budgets into great works of art, The acting is good, the more is less works in this film and I highly recommend you do as I did Google Adam Mason and watch his movies you will not be disappointed. I'm on my 3rd movie Mason has directed and I love them all so far, So give this movie a go if you need links to watch his movies online just shoot me a line and I will get these to you, Blood River is amazing and a must watch so is Broken and Luster. I will watch all his movies and rate them here I hope this helps other viewers as I am really happy I found Mason and his works of art. be advised the gore is in your face, and what I loved most about this move it was based on real life experiences, true story, I can't imagine anyone having to go through this type of horror and pain, the fear must have been so crazy yet the human spirit can adopt and survive almost anything.

Broken (2006)* (out of 4) Yet another mean-spirited SAW wannabe with this one coming from Britain. In the film a woman (Nadja Brand) goes out on a date and goes to bed but when she wakes up she's inside a coffin. She doesn't know where she is or how she got there but soon she's tied up to a tree where she must rip a razor out of her stomach in order to cut herself down. She's then introduced to the man (Eric Colvin) doing all of this stuff and from here on out it's one torture after another. The SAW movies have had some major ups and downs but I think you can view those films as at least well-written and made but that can't be said about BROKEN as it's one confusing mess that never really adds up to much and in the end it's pretty pointless. The pointless aspect would mean I would have to give a spoiler to the ending, which I won't do here but I'm sure most will came to the same train of thought after sitting through this thing. It's never made clear why the man kidnaps these women unless the only point was for them to grow a garden for him and keep his pots and pans clean. If that was the reason for everything going on then the screenplay is worse than I thought. If the entire point of this movie is to just see the woman tortured then that's simply not good enough. We've seen this type of film so many times that there's nothing fresh or original done here with the exception of the killer constantly being by the victim. There are a couple interesting scenes where he's taking care of her as if he cares but sadly this doesn't last too long and this emotion never comes back. The torture scenes are all rather cheaply done but we do get some special effects and this is especially true during the scene where the women have to remove stitches, dig into themselves and pull the razor out. Most of the other violence is rather bland and really doesn't get too hard to watch. The performances really aren't all that bad with both Brand and Colvin fitting their roles nicely but once again the screenplay really doesn't give them too much to work with. A third character is introduced and is so annoying that you'll be cheering for the killer. BROKEN is yet another entry in the so-called "torture/porn" genre that keeps delivering hit and miss flicks. This one here is certainly a miss and it's the type of film that will keep making you more and more frustrated as it moves along. You sit there watching just to finally get to the point but that point simply never comes.

Broken is simply an awful movie. It is an abusive husband's wet dream and an abused wife's worst nightmare. A crazy guy in the woods who looks about as harmless as Barney Fyfe kidnaps women and forces them to wash his pots and pans for him. He keeps his stash of women chained to trees and if they cry too much he cuts their tongues on with his big knife. He keeps one particular women chained to that tree for about two months until she finally gets loose and beats his brains out with an iron rod. That's it, folks. Sorry for the spoiler, but that is the entire plot. Of course, the survivor of this hate fest could have gotten away much, much earlier, when she got hold of his big knife but instead of slitting his worthless throat she only cuts his leg, tries to run away, only to stop somewhere and wait for him to come and catch her again. And of course, the other woman who is chained to the other tree could have gotten away too, when she filled a sock with rocks and hit him in the head and knocked him unconscious for a moment but instead of continuing to hit him until he was dead she runs away so that he can of course get up and shoot her in the back with his rifle, yes, the rifle that she could have taken from him in the first place. Yes, of course, because women are stupid, right, according to this movie, and this movie really, really hates women. It doesn't even give the poor survivor the satisfaction of finding her daughter alive at the end. This is nothing but an hour and a half of pure, mindless torture. It is pointless beyond belief.
