Crappy film
Admirable film.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
This is truly awful. A real insult to the original and the vampire genre. Why does Hollywood insist on making awful sequels to everything? It cant be to make money because they have enough of it. The acting is terrible. The storyline is weak and not very well thought out. So many script problems I will not bother to start describing them. The original was a refreshing piece of filming to the vampire genre. This is god awful sequel is just a another generic attempt to make money and weaken the genre.I wish I could give it a lesser score than 1 out of 10. I wasn't a massive fan of the first movie but it did have an interesting premise and was well handled. Here the survivors of vampire attacks team up to make a rag-tag band of desperadoes fighting a guerrilla war against the vampires who live parallel to us in the shadows.Sound familiar? Yep this could be 'Blade' or 'Underworld' or 'Buffy' or 'Twilight' or take your pick. All of those films have an element that is appealing to a particular audience or has a certain style. 30 Days has none of this. The vampire hunters have a lot emotional baggage, and oh my word, don't they let you know about it? They are more of a dysfunctional therapy group then anything. Yet despite their shared experiences and traumas none of them can get on.They moan on and on, even the obligatory sex scene is dull and awkward.Total snooze fest.
Well, I guess it's my fault after all. I half expected that Dark Days would be at least half as good as the original, and guess what - it isn't. Not by a long shot, not even close. Where do I begin?Out of mere convenience, let's start with the screenplay/story. The sole survivor of the tragedy of the first film had moved out, and started giving lectures about what happened, amusing skeptics and conspiracy fans alike. When she crosses the line and kills some vampires, this new version of Blade Trinity's "night stalkers" finds her. They are presented as a well organized and capable group of vampire slayers, only to turn out to be amateurs and simply stupid. The humans serving the vampires in hopes of joining them are this time referred to as "bug eaters" rather than "familiars", and the entire charade seems like someone has been watching a little too much blade. Very much like Matrix Reloaded, this sequel tried to "zoom out" story-wise, and has done a very poor job. I can't go into details of the dumb things the group does without being tempted to give out spoilers, let's just say they have good weapons they for some reason don't use, take no time to plan, and rely on suicidal instincts after having allegedly done this "vampire slaying" thing for over 2 years. And of course - how could this be a bad film without an unnecessary sex scene? Now let's move over to the vampires. I was so impressed by how they looked, sounded and behaved in the first film. In this one the overused old stereotype was used again and the vampires look almost completely human, not to mention the beautiful sexy matriarch, nothing resembling the creepy hideous monsters in the first film. That's all I have to say. Frustrated, disappointed and yet trying to remain impartial and objective - I rate this film 4. You may disagree. Watch it if you will, but expect the worst. That's the only way you'll enjoy it.
Change in actress Melissa George from the first movie to Kiele Sanchez sucks. Blood not convincing enough to be kool aid. Actress is wearing the ugliest underwear during the PG sex scene. Characters are all babies for a supposedly bada** group of vampire hunters. The character Todd definitely a snooze fest and all the characters spend the whole time crying and complaining about the situations they put themselves in.. The Title doesn't fit plot...how is it 30days of night or dark days in the middle of sunny California. It was more fun setting up an IMDb account and writing this review than it was watching the rest of the movie. I couldn't even tell you how it ended. But on the bright side though Lilith had a sweet dress. The sex scene was over with pretty fast. It didn't have a shaky camera for the most part. The vampires costumes were pretty decent. The makeup, besides the blood, was convincing. In summary, not the best, but not the worst vampire movie out there.
