Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

It was inevitable that the genius of Romero would jump on the bandwagon again. Land of the Dead was a step up, but I fear that the film was only financed and successful because of Wright's masterpiece released the year before. So obviously the once great director thought he could emulate another success with making this when Paranormal Activity was causing some tremendous ripples in Hollywood.Sadly, it's a step down from his other Zombie films, thanks to no tension, no cultural references, no sly pokes at consumerism, it's just a found footage film with zombies, hoping to sell lots of units because of the name. The cast are abysmal, apart from the camp college professor who adds nothing to the narrative but drink and spout his lines like he's a Shakespearean actor trying to find his motivation at the bottom of a bottle. So we follow the group, and they run into the walking dead on several occasions, but seeing that this is supposed to be set at the same time as the original NOTLD only adds to the confusion, with all the technology that is abound in the film.Bu there is one good scene involving acid, that makes the whole thing just about worth watching if you are a completest.Otherwise, stick with the original trilogy, they are groundbreaking.

I have watched almost every horror movie of all time and plenty of found footage movies too. And I can safely say this is one of the worst of both genres. I usually am not very harsh on horror movies and found footage films but this one is executed so bad it is unbelievable. Lets talk about the weaknesses of the movie. 1. Acting: Worst acting performances I have ever scene in a horror movie. Even zero budget indi horror movies have better acting. A one particular scene features an extra giving the worst ever acting performance as a zombie of all zombie movies ever made. It is even worse than a scene in "Shaun of the Dead" where some characters, very poorly, pretend to be zombies, for comic effect. I am not exaggerating. I am sure, some of the actors just simply gave up after reading the script and dialogues.2. Dialogues: Oh my God, this movie literally has the worst dialogues I have heard in any movie, TV series or any other media. Not only are dialogues bad and cringe worthy but they are also very weird and meaningless. Characters are saying things that don't even make any sense at all. Very often, things being spoken don't even have anything to do with the situation.3. Characters: As I previously said, I have watched almost every horror movie ever made and even by horror movie standards the characters in the movie are most stupid of all. They, coupled with highly nonsensical dialogues, are so bad, they remind you of A.I. video game characters from early 2000s games. Trust me, they are that bad, I am again not exaggerating, just watch a scene where a female character is being chased by a zombie in the woods. Her whole behavior is what you would expect from a AI character in a video game. Not a single likable character.4. Story: Was there any? Read the synopsis on IMDb, thats all the story there is, nothing else, not even an ending.5. Cinematography: It was very bad. Even for found footage movies standard, it was very very bad. Not too shaky or any thing, just bad. A found footage movie is supposed to look amateur but this one looked like they were trying to shoot it to look like amateur by not shooting it like an amateur. If you want to watch a horror movie, skip this one. If you want to watch a found footage movie, skip this one. If you want to watch a zombie film, skip this one. Now lets talk about strong points of the movie:NONE.Watch this only when teaching someone, how not to make a horror/ found footage/ zombie movie and also to show how not to write script/ dialogue/ characters.

'Diary of the Dead' ('DotD' 2007) is indy low-budget production at its most masterful! The 'Dead' apocalypse returns in full force as 'DotD' lightens up on the gore (just a little bit), but revs up the horror & humor. 'DotD' is as entertaining as Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead' was in 1985 & as scary as 'Night of the Living Dead' was in 1968. Using documentary narrative & accompanying narration, 'DotD' is captured in first person/camera perspective under brilliantly dynamic cinematography & direction by The Master, George Romero. While still depicting typically Romero dialogue & acting, don't look for anything resembling meticulous character development & plot structure in 'DotD', as this 'Dead' production has a sense of realism in perspective only. Suspenseful & thrilling throughout, 'DotD' seems a completely new entry into the genre all its own (in as much as a Zombie film can be!). What you can expect from 'DotD' is dark humor wrapped around biting social satire (on the current state of the world/media/technology) that is delivered by a brilliant cast of up-&-comers, spectacular sound/cinematography, a Romero cameo, & gore galore with more incredibly creative new ways to kill zombies that include an Amish farmer named Samuel that steals his scenes! In a gritty resorting of the Zombie/Undead/Sicko genre, 'DotD' is proof Romero is still king of the Zombie/Undead/Sicko genre & a must-see for Romero fans, while genre enthusiasts will be thoroughly entertained. 'DotD' is also recommended for casual horror/adventure viewers. For similar themes consider: 'Shaun of the Dead' (2004); 'REC' (2007); 'Zombie Dairies' (2006); 'Cannibal Holocaust' (1985); 'Land of the Dead' (2005); 'Planet Terror' (2007); 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978); Resident Evil: Apocalypse' (2004); & 'Danger 50,000 Zombies' (2004). Also consider: 'War of the Worlds' (1953); 'Citizen Kane' (1941); 'Resident Evil' (2002); 'Fido' (2006); 'I Love Sarah Jane' (2008); & 'How I Won the War' (1967).

A group of college students from the University of Pittsburgh are filming a horror movie in the forest when they hear of an actual zombie epidemic on the radio. So, instead of a horror film for class credit, the main cameraman, "Jason Creed" (Joshua Close) decides to record a documentary for human posterity. Granted, this is not the best zombie movie George A. Romero has ever directed. The acting was uneven and the pace was rather slow throughout the movie. Likewise, the ending was also disappointing for a couple of reasons. First, the story was told by "Debra Moynihan" (Michelle Morgan) in the past tense which tended to take away some of the surprise value. Second, the decision to eliminate one of the characters by having her simply drive off could also have been handled better. It almost seemed like they were short on film and had to end the movie as soon as possible. Even so, I will take an average zombie movie like this one by Romero over some of the current low-budget zombie films on the market any day.
