All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Only thing this had to do with Day of the dead (1985) is that they are both zombie movies. Other that I will say it not a remake. It is great horror movie thou. 4.5 is underrating it. I give it 9 out 10. It has a great story line. It also has great acting. It also has great special effects. It is very scary. This a great zombie film. This movie is a must see. It one of the best horror movies of all time. Mena Suvari is a great actress. Nick Cannon is a great actor. Steve Miner is a great film maker. This is a very scary movie. See it. This movie is scarier then The Silence of the lambs ever could be. If it does not scary you no movie will. This is a very scary movie.

When I heard that Day of the Dead was being remade, the mere thought sounded absurd. I mean that is one of, if not THE BEST zombie films of all time! But you never know, could be interesting, right? Like the Dawn of the Dead remake? Wrong. This is honestly the most boringly awful "zombie" "film" (I used these two terms VERY loosely here) I have ever seen, and I watch all I can find.Even if you try to pretend this movie has nothing in common with the original, it's still beyond atrocious. Not even remotely half-way through this movie I was craving for it to be over. The actors who portray characters-in-name-only of the ones from the original film, are pretty mediocre. Ving Rhames' presence could have been good considering how great he was in the Dawn of the Dead remake, but even he couldn't save this mess. The movie seemed very anti-climactic throughout with a very boring and forgettable score. Terrible CGI, terrible gore, etc. This "movie" isn't even worth an in-depth review, because it seems they didn't even put in a decent amount of effort.Avoid this movie like a horde of zombies. Watch the original Day of the Dead (1985) instead, as well as Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978).

So I've just finished watching Day of the Dead, and I must say I've rather enjoyed it. I've read some of the reviews and message board posts, and I can understand why people don't think it's the best film out there, not even the best Zombie flick. It's just a zombie film, and not such a bad one.The story is just about the same story like in any other film of the sort. A virus, infected, some people naturally immune, survivors trying to escape the outbreak. It's not an apocalypse film, as the virus is local, it's more like what happens before the apocalypse. The plot is nice enough. I did like the fact that unlike in other films of the sort, in this case the infected do retain some of their humanity and traits. Acting isn't all that great, though I don't think it's the cast's fault, as there's a limit to how well one could play the banal obvious rolls in such a film. I did like Nick Cannon as the comic relief, although it too was rather stereotypical (very Bad Boys). Nothing I can say about the direction and cinematography, and the soundtrack was OK I guess. All in all, it's typical Action Horror zombies. If you din't expect to be overwhelmed by quality, you can really enjoy this film for what it is. If you want a nice Zombie film - go ahead and watch Day of the Dead, but if you're looking to be scared or for a Zombie film that reinvents the wheel - keep looking.
