Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Overrated
if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Three pre-teenage friends are being split up because of what seems to be (what I've heard called) "imminent domain". In this case the city, or whoever, wants to build a freeway right where an entire neighborhood is located. So they've bought out the residents in order to raze the homes and construct their freeway.These three friends decided to spend their last night together following a mysterious map that appeared on their phones. The map leads them to a seemingly useless piece of scrap metal which turns out to be more than that. What they eventually discover is an ailing alien that longs to go home.This movie reminds me of E.T. if someone used it for toilet paper. Or Super 8 if someone used it to blow their nose.Even if we take away the fact that the movie was shot P.O.V. (which is a style I abhor in most cases with the exception of Paranormal Activity and REC) the movie was still bad. Nothing in the movie made me take notice: not their friendship, not any one character, not the story and certainly not the alien. I watched anxiously hoping for something incredible or at least something satisfactory and I found neither.Perhaps this movie was something new and awesome to children but it was a big dud to me.
The movie Earth to Echo was a very creative movie and wasn't just like every other cliché movie with aliens in it. There were a few parts that did remind me of another movie but besides the one or two parts that contained something that reminded me of another movie, it was original. The editing in the movie was very commendable and the parts that showed Echo's sight was also creative and commendable. In the movie there are three boys who are best friends who are forced to move out because of a road being made right above their homes. A few days before they have to home out, one of their phones starts to show a map. They all decide to go to where the map is and they end up finding an alien who needs help to get back home.My opinion on this movie is that it is very creative and I liked how it wasn't just like every other alien movie. It had a interesting plot and the special effects creative. The ending was slightly easy to guess but the story itself was very creative and the movie was very interesting.
I think people expected too much of typical science fiction actions out of this movie. That would explain why this good movie don't have a good overall rating. For me I stumbled across this movie and watched it without knowing even the title of the movie is. I was very pleased of the two hours I spent watching this.I was in the middle of doing something else, the interesting plot and actions kept me watching this movie till the very end. For the shaky cameras wise I am all good with them as they give the perspective from the cameras the kids are using to film the whole process. It fits the plots nicely not like certain movies that tries to use that concept way too purposefully. At the end I will some inspirations I get from this movie. "Compassion is mankind best quality" "Everyone can makes a difference" "Don't let fear controls your decision, do what you wanted and thinks it is right"
Earth to Echo (2014): Dir: Dave Green / Cast: Teo Halm, Brian "Astro" Bradley, Reese Hartwig,Ella Wahlestedt, Jason Gray-Stanford: Creative family film about communication. Director Dave Green makes the great move of presenting this as a found footage family film, which is relatively new to the genre. It regards four pre teen kids whose neighborhood is under threat when government construction workers evict everyone from their homes. Their reasoning is that they are building a highway. The truth is discovered by these kids who are curious about the activity on their phones. This leads them to the desert where they discover a small space capsule that conceals an metal alien that resembles an owl. It follows them throughout the night as this creature, which they call Echo, guides them towards parts of its capsule or ship while slowly getting stronger. One of the worst elements of this film is the pathetic over-the-top construction worker villains who are really after the alien. The four kids are all effective in their on camera presentation as they relate to each other and the growing threat of growing apart through the move. Another issue regards the ending. While the alien situation is solved with great visual stimulation but the fate of their homes leaves much to be desired. It is like only half the plot is solved. The theme regards the bond of friendship and those great moments and memories that formulate a past worth reflecting upon. This is something different for family entertainment with the found footage element. It is certainly no E.T. The Extra-terrestrial, but it should find good footing with its target audience. Score: 7 ½ / 10
