Independent British thriller starring Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon. Lewis (Scott), an overworked doctor, is on his way home from London with his young son Max (Joshua Kaynama). Clearly exhausted from his work, Lewis decides to take a nap on the train while an attractive young woman (Tointon) watches over his son. When he wakes, all but a few passengers have alighted and he realises that the train is not stopping to let anyone else off. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Lewis goes to investigate and finds that the train has been taken over by an unstable driver who is hellbent on destroying the vehicle along with all the remaining passengers on board.

Best movie ever!
Admirable film.
It starts out with about 20-30 minutes of people riding on a train, which was pretty fascinating because they talk to each other, a bit like regular people on a regular train, but more boring because they're just reading a boring script. Then the train speeds up a bit, I guess. The passengers never seem very worried about it. They try to break into the engineer's compartment but give up in a few minutes. They don't try to pry the door open, they just bang on it and then give up.Then they try to uncouple their car, but again give up in a few minutes. There's a piece of metal covering the coupling that looks like two people could pull it up and bend it out of the way, but they never try. One guy goes outside, then gives up after a few minutes and comes back in - just in time! A tunnel! After that they sit around drinking and telling jokes while waiting for a special time to decouple the car: the special time is when they're going uphill, which would, in reality, make the train car harder to decouple. Then they try to blow up the coupling by putting a fire extinguisher over it, covering it with cloth, pouring a few ounces of booze on it and setting fire to it.Those few ounces of alcohol somehow set fire to the metal of the train and the metal continues to burn for the rest of the movie, finally rapidly spreading to the front of the train like gunpowder, for no apparent reason, then making the train engine explode while the one guy finally jumps off - right before the train stops. It was awful.
I am an American in the Philippines and this movie was being shown on one of their channels. I had never heard of it, so I gave it a chance. After watching a few minutes, I felt sorry for the people in America that wasted about $9,300 on this piece of garbage. I am literally shocked that something like this would be released in the year 2013. It was extremely obvious why ticket sales in the US were less than $10,000.High School kids could produce a better quality film. The characters are 5 minutes from possibly dying and they sit around and have a beer and tell stories on a train that is speeding at 100 mph???? Are you kidding me?Cliché after Cliché after Cliché ! The beautiful girl. The widowed doctor. The young child that is trying to replace his dead mother. Come On !This movie was HORRIBLE.Then, they had to throw in the Engineer really wanted to be a Magician but he couldn't tell his father. Clichés were embedded in Clichés.This movie sucked so bad, I started laughing at the end. I laughed so hard, that I had to come here and write this review... That way, I could Laugh some more. Ha. Ha. Ha.
This is a British "B"movie thriller. This film has a few high's and low's, but overall it's a decent, albeit unconventional/throwback thriller. The good is that the two main leads here do a fine job. The cast is really only comprised of about 5 speaking parts. Dougray Scott is always good, but Kara Tointon is a pleasant surprise here. SHe looks a bit like Sienna Miller, and might actually be an even better actress. No doubt she looks the part. The film is a bit of a slow-burner - taking at least 45 minutes to get to the meat of what's going-on.I like the idea of Iddo Goldberg's character in the film(Jan Klimowski). A neat backstory for a character who isn't what he appears to be in the film. The only issue I have is that his Russian accent fizzles into western European English at the end of each sentence. The accent was 'a miss'.You might give this a spin as a decent passer of the time, but I wouldn't go in expecting one of those blow-you-away films that you've never heard of, because it will definitely fall short of that expectation. The film does have 'a little' style, and the action scenes are actually admirably done for what they had to work with.62/100some better music throughout would have added A LOT, while I didn't mind the unconventional approach of no explanation of the villain in this tale - I still would have liked a little 'after-the-fact' finishing scene. It would have been nice to see Sarah and Lewis off the train, if only for a minute. There was a brewing chemistry there, and it would have been nice to see Lewis' character come full-circle with his personal life.
Scott is no stranger to absolutely atrocious acting performances and here shows why is he is getting close to Danny Dire's crown as the worst actor of his generation. Okay I have a confession to make I have disliked him ever since he did the day of the triffids rehash some years back. Also I watched a bit of Aeon Flux last night. So what of this movie. I was hoping for an unofficial update of Dr Terror's House of Horrors. Freddie Francis's masterpiece from the sixties. No such luck I got to see some turgid nonsense about six passengers on a train but wait, some train driver has decided to go on the rampage.. with six passengers. Another reviewer poured scorn over the train details (agut-65-912139) and I am pouring scorn over the plot and the acting performances. This movie is supposed to be a thriller the first half an hour is trying and failing to show that the characters are human. This section is boring. Then after which a person with a motor cyclist helmet obviously the evil one. Then they are preparing to got to Tunbridge and the train goes through. After which sheer boredom reigns. I have seen speed.Really I could not work out why what should have been such a taught thriller was so boring, then I remembered that I do not like Scott. Well this movie has not convinced that he can act after he hammed it up so much.
