Maybe it's because I'm Half African, or maybe this film was very well done, but I LOVE THIS FILM! I was laughing throughout! And I don't often laugh to certain comedies. Never seen this film until today! I'd suggest my mom watch it but the nudity and profanity would not go well with Her. It would make her laugh though. I say that I'm half African because maybe That's why I relate to some parts and laughed. Like how many white people love The Office or arrested development, which both are very stale to me. I think certain ethnicities react more to certain comedies. Maybe that's a factor. Maybe not! This film wasn't directed by Spike Lee. It was John Landis! He's not black. I'm not sure my theory of ethnically relevant comedy always stands. Again, I don't laugh at arrested development nor The Office. I went on a date with a white girl and she was Talking about arrested development and I couldn't relate. With those two shows, maybe they land better with white people. I've never heard a black person talk about the office or arrested development. Never! I don't know any black people that want to go to Coachella, either. Lol. Race may not matter regarding how they react to certain styles of comedy. It's very interesting that Eddie Murphy was so successful in the 1980's as a leading man. Beverly Hills cop was supposed to cast Sylvester Stallone! Imagine that franchise with Sylvester Stallone! This film was Hilarious! And it had some cliche things, but surprisingly, they weren't cheesy. Eddie Murphy and John landis collaborated on other films. Maybe they really understood each other, maybe both were just very great at making films, and teaming up, they succeeded. I just think this film worked. I wasn't asking too many questions about realism because it could happen. The ending, I did wonder how that happened, but it can be explained if you think about the family and friends. I can't believe it took me this long to finally watch this movie. I had to debate with myself, whether Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy was funnier overall. I already know Eddie Murphy was more successful as an actor, but Eddie Murphy made Beverly Hills cop franchise into a very good franchise. If Stallone did that franchise as originally planned, it would've been very different. Maybe it's not fair comparing Murphy to Pryor, but they're very similar. Great film!

Continuing my plan to watch every Eddie Murphy movie in order, I come to Coming To America (1988) Plot In A Paragraph: An extremely pampered African Prince (Murphy) travels to Queens, New York, and goes undercover to find a wife whom he can respect for her intelligence and mind.Despite Murphy picking director John Landis (Trading Places) himself, they did not get on during filming, Landis said Murphy had turned in to an egotistical monster, with a ridiculous list of demands. He vowed never to work with Murphy again. "The guy on Trading Places was young and full of energy and curious and funny and fresh and great. The guy on Coming To America was the biggest pig of the world" Murphy also slated Landis in public saying his career was hanging by a thread, when he "threw him a bone" and hired him to direct this movie. He added he wished he had left him and his career where it was, instead of gifting him a hit movie. It is impossible to dislike this charming movie!! This film marks the first time Eddie Murphy played multiple characters in the same film. I loved that the homeless men that receive the money from Prince Akeem are the Duke brothers from Trading Places. All the supporting cast are great, in fact there is not a weak link in the cast. Definitely one to revisit every now and again. One of Murphy's best. It seemed liked audiences could not get enough of Eddie Murphy as they again turned out in droves as Coming To America grossed $128 million at the domestic box office (only Rain Man and Who Framed RogerbRabbit grossed more) to finish 1987 the 3rd highest grossing movie of the year.

Hilarious tale of an African prince named Akeem (Murphy) and his royal servant (Hall) who head off to the United States in search of the perfect Queen. After deciding to go to New York City (they saw that the city had a borough named "Queens"), Akeem becomes a pauper in order to woo the perfect woman (Shari Headley) to become his wife. Although the film had many pre and post-production problems (director Landis almost walked off the set due to a fight with Murphy; Murphy was successfully sued by columnist Art Buchwald for "stealing" his idea of an African prince who goes in search of a wife) the final production is pure comic genius at it's best. Undeniabley, Murphy is the king of a thousand faces. Eddie Murphy gets a chance to deliver a more restrained performance with this film and he manages to do so very well. The film features many hilarious scenes and characters especially a group of boxing obsessed senior citizens who spend their days arguing with a barber shop owner. Murphy and Hall demonstrate their levels of versatility by managing to go under heavy makeup and portray several different costarring roles. This is an excellent film, well produced and flows beautifully from one scene to the next. The movie has a brilliant cast of African Americans. This is Eddie Murphy at his best with witty dialogue, good jokes and romance. If you like Eddie Murphy, and you like comedy, then this is a film not to be missed.Overall rating: 9 out of 10.

Coming to America is a romantic comedy starred by comedian Eddy Murphy, and starred by actress and actors Arsenio Hall, John Amos, James Earl Jones, and Shari Headley. Coming to America was produced by George Falsey Jr. and Robert D. Wachs on June 29, 1988. In the film Coming to America, Akeem Joffer, a royal prince has become tired of his daily life, so he wants to pursue the life of his own. Akeem plans to come to America to find a nice wife that he can both love and respect. Akeem and his best friend flip a coin and that decided the city which Akeem would go, which is New York City. Seeking for a wife, Akeem plans to meet a girl who loves him for who he is and not because he's rich and also because of his prince status. Will he find that ideal women? Coming to America's cinematography is outstanding from the sound, to the dialogue, to the visual effects, to the editing of plot. The dialogue was very comical. The visual effects were very clear and precise. The writers of Coming to America made a clear theme of the movie and the movie carried a very interesting plot. Coming to America have two major essential themes. The first theme of the movie is loving someone for who they are and not for their money and wealth. Akeem's appointed lover Imani was a big gold digger. She loved him for money and wealth. Akeem knew she wasn't a real woman. Another theme discussed in the movie is that money doesn't buy happiness. In the beginning of the movie, Akeem is fed up with the life of a prince and wants to enjoy a real life. He was in for a treat when he moved to America. I give this movie a 10/10! It is a very good movie filled with comedy and romantic scenes. Children ask parents before watching this movie.
