It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
This is a new take on "Rosemary's Baby" done in the Rob Zombie near porno style. Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie) is part of a hip radio talk team in Salem. She lives in a modest apartment building with three elderly women and an apartment that never rents. On Tuesday she finds out the goat has free will and by Thursday she is chasing the rabbit. She is haunted by weird dreams and visions. Francis Mathias (Bruce Davison) plays the investigator, checking out new music by "The Lords of Salem."Michael Berryman and Sid Haig are in unrecognizable roles, a waste of their talents. Zombie fans will enjoy this blasphemous film. All others I would recommend watching before buying.Parental Guide: F-bomb, full frontal nudity (some not that pretty), simulated oral sex.
First off The Lords of Salem is yet another film by the brilliant artist-musician-film director Rob Zombie. This movie was released in 2012 and is a story about basically The American Witch. Unlike Rob Zombie's other films The Lords of Salem is a bit of slow starter very heavily detailed. We purchased The Lords of Salem because we are hardcore Rob Zombie fans, we love his music, art, and films. We consider The House of 1000 Corpses to be a complete work of art, "The Devil's Rejects" to be a very great somewhat extension to the first film. Rob Zombie is an artist, his work is more enjoyable to those that truly see him as an artist. Former films directed by Rob Zombies such as his versions of Halloween and Halloween 2 we feel were better than the originals, yet they still held true to the original stories. This all being said, "The Lords of Salem" was more artistry based of a film, slow moving, detailed, but is a hard film to get in to.Now we watched "The Lords of Salem" a few times now, following Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie) through the story as it slowly exposes that she had a lot to do with a specific coven of witches known as "The Lords of Salem". I can't stress the length of time in this build up enough, maybe too much detail leading up to this was displayed. Of course Rob Zombies' movies are all about the detail which has made them all amazing, this film specifically is just slower based. The film style used in The Lords of Salem is awesome, the characters were played very well, and we also liked the little kick backs here and their noting other movies. Things like Sheri Moon Zombie being referred to as "Baby" for a quick spot in the story, just to name one of these. But yes the cast was perfect, the graphics were very good, and we cannot leave out John 5 for his music contribution and acting.
As I do, then this movie is a fantastic treat. I originally rated this baby 10 stars, but after reading a few reviews I agree on one thing, the story is a bit predictable. Take away that, and this movie to me is everything perfect about cinema. I love movies most when I am attacked with numerous unsettling images and sounds. The scenery, cinematography, atmosphere, color schemes, is overwhelmingly magnificent. Plus, it has more of a plot for the average movie watcher to enjoy then something like House of 1000 Corpses. This movie is dark and beautiful, and the little details are what make it an outstanding achievement. I love Rob Zombie's style, and this movie succeeded on pretty much every single aspect. It did more to impress me than most of the big blockbusters, and Zombie did it on a tiny little budget. How can you not applaud this work of art? Disturbing, creepy, but never less than sadistically brilliant. Loved it.
This generation is so used to lack of story & full on blood/guts, over the top violence & CGI, so sadly they were let down. I think it was probably Zombie's most intelligent script yet. Kids from my generation who have seen it, I hope they can respect the humble homages & "hat tips" as seen in this recent ZOMBIE incarnation of sinema debauchery.THE LORDS OF SALEM is a wonderful reminder that horror ISN'T dead. Rob Zombie recreated a world that alone would make Ti West, Roman Polanski, Ken Russell & Dennis Wheatley proud. In this movie, we rely on old school scares, subliminal masking, & tasteful nudity of which hasn't seen the likes of since the 70's. THE LORDS takes the viewer back to a world where witchcraft was evil, devil worship is forbidden to speak of, & vinyl is king.If you have a love of classic 70's horror sinema, & enjoy a good hallucinogenic trip down the annuals of horror, then take a chance & visit or revisit THE LORDS OF SALEM .
