Sadly Over-hyped
Admirable film.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
I grew up in the Detroit area - there was an underground punk scene in the city, but I didn't know much more about punk until I saw this movie. My name is Pam, and my best friend and I called each other Nicky and Pammy for months after seeing this movie. Great teen rebellion flick, great gritty scenes of NYC. The concert at the end is awesome - Damn Dog was my favorite song. Loved Trini Alvarado. Surprised she didn't do a lot more acting.I wish I still had the album; it is even better than the movie. I'm looking in used record stores for it, and hopefully will find it.
I watched the whole movie on YouTube and thought this is actually really entertaining. The critics complained about it being overblown. I disagree... The script is a bit patchy in places, same with the direction, but I've seen a lot worse, believe me. The soundtrack was what made this movie, it was fantastic. I prefer classical music, but this music was good because of the content and it was catchy. The performances were really good also. Tim Curry is really cool as Johnny LaGuardia, who sort of succumbs to a change of heart. One minute he is all wild, then he is comforting Pamela. The girl who played Pamela was also convincing, though not as good as her co-star Robin Johnson, who was easily the best actress in the movie. Their scenes while corny at times were on the most part touching. When Nicki suffers a breakdown, I had tears in her eyes, because she was so convincing. Why is she no longer acting? One thing that gets me mad, Why is the rating so low? It isn't actually that bad. Sure it mayn't be to everyone's taste but it is definitely the most underrated of the 1980s movies.7/10 in respect to the players. Bethany Cox (I wish I could give it higher but I've only seen it once)
This movie was so important to me as a teenager. It was very empowering. I have visited New York City several times now due to my interest that was kindled by this movie. I started looking for it on DVD literally 2 weeks before it was released and was thrilled to find it available. A reunion of some sort would be well received I am sure. They are making me submit at least ten lines so I am filling those up with more accolades for the movie, I love this movie yeah yeah yeah. The soundtrack is amazing...I have it on cassette and have recreated most of it from Napster. Hello Robin and Trini where ever you are..thank you.
Yes, this movie was a flop, but who ever judged a movie by how the box office does. A lot of dreck does good. A lot of gems die. This is one of them. This is a movie about friendship. Two needy people find each other. They're very different, but together, they become better and stronger people. There is deep friendship, but whether there is a sexual element, I'll leave to you. Neither girl is shown to have a sexual focus, either to males or females.Robin Johnson, who deserves all the fine line written about her, is great, but Trini Alvarado is also good. She has to be the lesser role, but she is no less important. Pity Robin Johnson could never make it big, but if she's reading this, I hope you're happy, and you've made a mark, which most actors never do. I heard you on the DVD.I wish the two could have stayed together. Remember, alternative endings are not just for DVDs. Think one up yourself.
