It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Can't blame the actors. This movie just has NO DRAMA. You know what is going to happen every second; no surprises. And let that music keep swelling when the oh so happy conclusion is about to arrive.Hey I am happy they found their lost son. But God/Jesus had nothing to do with bringing him home and nothing to do with his getting lost. What about all the families who have a situation like this yet it ends tragically. Guess God just hated them and their kids. This movie is, in the end, unkind and unsympathetic.Poor God. Poor Jesus. They get blamed and credited for all the wrong things.

This is a gentle, simple film, based on true events, about honest people with kind hearts working together as a community. As such, it is not a "blockbuster". It does not have any special effects, violence, nudity, or action - other than some well orchestrated crowd scenes and use of a couple of helicopters. Therefore, it seems to have disappointed one or two reviewers. However, their disappointment speaks more to their unrealistic expectations of the film, rather than any failings of its creators to effectively tell their story - which they do with competence, heart, and production values appropriate to the material.Personally, I do NOT believe in God (or any other higher power), and I am usually irritated (at best) and enraged (at worst) by people with religious "faith" imposing their beliefs on all and sundry. However, I found nothing offensive or preachy in this film. The film depicts real people who DO have faith, and as far as I can tell it does so honestly, and with no agenda other than telling THEIR story. I didn't at any time feel that I was being subtly coerced into following their beliefs. Simply observing them interacting with each other in their own way. Yes, every one in it seemed to be a very good, kind-hearted person, and they no doubt attribute that to their faith. And in some respects so do I - not because I share their religious beliefs, but because I recognise their humanity, which is compatible with my own.I was moved by the kindness and selflessness of the people depicted, and the film successfully drew me in to share their fears, doubts, and ultimate relief. As a non-believer I don't begrudge them their joy. I personally think they got lucky - most people don't - and their good luck would naturally seem to them like the intervention of a benign and loving God. And maybe they're right about that. I can't disprove his existence. But my doubts about his existence are as strong as their (equally unprovable) faith. But none of that matters. In this instance, no one was harmed by the religion. A family was reunited, and during the time the boy was missing their "faith" kept them strong and gave them some comfort. And no doubt the kindness of the community was at least in part due to the religious connection between them all.So, the film kept me interested and invested throughout, I cared about the characters; I cared about the outcome; I was never bored; I was never distracted by irritation over the religious content. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. For what it was. A pleasant little TV movie, well-made, well acted, and with a happy ending. Sometimes that's all I need.

This was a wonderful movie and showed the example that God wants us to love our neighbors. We are to be God's hands and feet and that's what these neighbors did. I don't understand the previous reviewer who said that he and his wife sat down on a Saturday night thinking that the film would be action, drama, or comedy. He was annoyed that this kind of film is allowed in the main-stream and that such a film can be put upon so many innocent viewers. First of all, are you really an innocent viewer? Didn't you read a synopsis of the movie before you rented/watched it? My husband and I always do that to see if we're interested. If you don't like the synopsis, then I suggest you don't watch it. But you are mistaken when you say that the film was put upon you. You chose to view it obviously without checking out the content of the film. As far as your comment about the film being "allowed in the main-stream", when did you become judge and juror of what films should be allowed to be viewed? The last I heard the USA was a free country and we are allowed to view any movie we want. I would much rather see this type of heart-warming movie than a gory, violent, full of vulgarity sort of movie. And the story is most believable; God performs miracles everyday. This movie was not an experience in religion, but a story of hope, faith, and dependence upon Our Creator, God. And yes, I am a devout Christian who believes that God wants us to love Him with all our hearts and love thy neighbor as thyself. And that's what these neighbors did. If I was unfortunate enough to be in such a situation, I would want neighbors like these to be here for me. As God's creation, we have free-will to choose Him and His love or reject it. I pray that you will not reject it. The joy of knowing God is too extraordinary for description! Peace and Grace to you and your wife.

The way home is a true story about a major event in the Simpkin's family lives and is very well done if i do say so myself. Dean Cain is spectacular and really makes you feel for his character. Lori Edgerman is really good with being a concerned mother but has her occasional over the top accent. Some of the supporting cast is a bit undeveloped and distracting. the highlight of this film is dean in the woods praying for his son to be alright. The pace of the film is well planned out as is the story. the film will pull you into this major event of a struggling family's life i think you will be wanting this to be finding The Way Home to your DVD collection!
