The Limits of Control
A mysterious stranger works outside the law and keeps his objectives hidden, trusting no one. While his demeanor is paradoxically focused and dreamlike all at once, he embarks on a journey that not only takes him across Spain, but also through his own consciousness.

Just perfect...
If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
If someone would ask me to describe this movie in only one single word, i would say "bullseye". Because that's what this movie really is. We all got used to expect nothing less than brilliant from Jarmusch, but still, surprise from this title is something a bit unexpected, when compared to his previous works. But, for me, this movie sums up all of his experience and skill, to become THE movie. The movie of Jim Jarmusch.Untied by the storyline, Jim creates a surreal collage of scenes and shots that combine perfectly with each other, while still being a small, delicious part of the big cake itself. There is a quote from Tilda Swindon in the movie, which describes itself completely, and sets the tone for all your future movies. All of them.Acting - nothing to say. Everyone is doing the perfect job to keep the moment alive, and it goes all the way throughout the movie. Anyway, after seeing the movie you won't even remember the actors. Just the mood. And that pleasant dreamy feeling. Release yourself, and watch this masterpiece.
I was thinking that this was the abstract baby Lost in Translation and The American had, and just like that Bill Murray eventually makes an appearance. The way he looked at the skull on his desk really made me smile. The reason I watched this movie was because of Boris & Sunn O)))'s contribution to the soundtrack, and that was the only reason. Well, I was in for it! Personally I don't think this drone / doom metal soundtrack fits this movie, or almost any movie, but surely I am biased. And perhaps I've just listened too much to the songs beforehand so that I find they are too cut down, repetitive and out of place here. Boris's music worked in Kokuhaku, though. Also, did I get what The Limits of Control was about? Not overall, and I didn't like the unrealistic dialogues. It made the dominating silence in the movie seem more meaningless and less thought-provoking. Still, having random (famous) people ramble on about long-winded, ambiguous and quite irrelevant topics didn't lack charm (I'm not being completely sarcastic, especially in John Hurt's case). But hey, it is a very symbolic and long-dragged movie that shrouds its various points with mystery. It is a full-blown "show, don't tell" piece of film. Make what you will of it; I was entertained throughout but I did not arrive at any satisfactory conclusion. However, the wavering of the camera in the last second of the movie had me wondering. Did I limit this movie?
A film about nothing that keeps you on the edge of your seat; gotta be worth a watch? A man on a mission, full of purpose.A series of secret messages.A small section of a much larger picture that we are lucky enough to be able to view.If you are sick of the predictability of films in the present day - and have that 'Generic/clairvoyant' ability to second guess every other action in a film, then this is for you.It WILL fool you, but you may fall in love with it for that.A worthy watch, but an opinion splitting flick.Regardless - it gets my vote.8/10 Seano Out!
OK So I decided to watch a few minutes of this movie (albeit was already into the movie but figured whatever I'll give it a go) recorded the rest onto the DVR and watched the rest later. Big mistake.Albeit I haven't watched the beginning of the movie, what should draw your attention during the movie is the middle of the movie to make you want to go back and watch it again.I guess this movie is suppose to be some kind of art basically or something to appeal to a small group of people. Granted some artsy folks who think dots on a paper or watching paint dry will make them excited or something it doesn't do it for me.I had no idea what's going on with the protagonist I guess it's about this guy who is on this secret mission to assassinate this guy or something I have no idea then you find out later were not really sure who this guy is after all.Anyway I'm not sure what to make out of this thing other than if you find watching paint dry on a wall entertaining or grass grow I suppose this will be of some value.
