To me, this movie is perfection.
People are voting emotionally.
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
This zombie film starts after zombies are present in large numbers. The two lead characters, Mike and Brent, are somehow intermediate: they show signs of death and decay, but they can speak, think, enjoy beer, enjoy food, and make plans about the future. Mike finds an engagement ring in his pocket. He remembers Ellie, his fiancé. Brent proclaims they should go find her; nothing is stronger than love, after all.Mike and Brent are about to head off for Michigan from Colorado when the full-blown zombies attack the bar where they were having dinner. They pick up Cheese along the way. Cliff (zero percent zombie) gives them a ride; he's intending to go to Lake Michigan to spread his wife's ashes. The cause of the zombie problem is a chemical spill. Someone or another decides to quarantine the area. The quarantine team consists entirely of idiots and incompetents. Cliff blows past the quarantine, but sleep is a problem; they let Cheese drive, and they run out of gas. The subsequent 'camping' in the woods is a ghost story fest, aided by weed. Mike works on his speech to Ellie, and Cheese kills a cop who shot Brent twice. They use the cop's gas to continue. The vignette with the horror films at the drive-in was an interesting touch. The quarantine group recruits an escaped convict, Thomas, who likes to kill zombies. They get captured, but Cheese breaks them out. The scene with Mike being dragged for a few football fields was not all that funny. Cliff makes it to the shore of Lake Michigan, but he has already run out of his heart medicine, and dies watching the waves. They make it to Mike's house, and Mike remembers that Ellie's father killed him in that same house. The reality of meeting Ellie comes to pass; their ten year reunion is that night, so he goes to it, so he can tell her how he feels. He puts on a mascot costume, and talks to Ellie. The authorities drag him off; the next day, Ellie's father has a few more laughs at Michael's expense.Thomas changes his mind, and decides to help Michael. Michael makes it to Ellie's house, but the chief idiot of the quarantine squad catches up.What could possibly go wrong?------Scores------Cinematography: 9/10 Nice.Sound: 10/10 Excellent.Acting: 7/10 Could have been better.Screenplay: 8/10 There were several funny moments, which is more than I can say for most films labeled comedy. The story hung together, once one suspends disbelief about smart zombies.
This was nice twist on zombie movies, Which I don't think it's be done before but I found the first half the movie very funny at times. As the movies goes on, I didn't really find some of the jokes that funny at all, I got really bored in the middle of the movie.I didn't really thing the movie was that gory at all for a zombie movie, there maybe body Parts being pulled there some strange moment were zombie guts were used as a ropeThe acting was really good from the whole, it shame some of the bad parts of the movie kinda of over shadows fist half of the movie. I wasn't to keen on ending of the movie at all.6 out of 10
Humor is in the eye of the beholder. So while the quirky way this movie decides to take, is not everyones taste, even those who don't like it that much, have to admit, that it sticks to its plan. Of course that doesn't help with those who won't like it from the get go. But at least you know, this isn't for you then. There's other movies that try a similar formula (one's hidden in my summary line, the other being Revenant ... though I can only recommend the latter as an alternative, even if not as good as this one), but none have a thorough story or the actors to back it up, as does this movie. Not without flaws, but as good as it gets in that genre and not just trying to be cool, but actually achieving it. I can only hope that you can enjoy it as much as I did ...
Deadheads is both a zombie movie and a love story about two zombies who go on a cross-country road trip to reconnect with a girlfriend from their waking life. It is far better than one might expect from the premise.I am not particularly interested in zombie movies so I was pleased to find that Deadheads had characters with very human motivations; several times during the film I found myself caring for Michael McKiddy's character, despite his zombie appearance. One great thing about the film is its self-awareness. The directors, and actors know they are making a zombie love story, and they embrace the ridiculousness of that fact completely. The movie is all about fun--there are many pop-culture references, references to other movies, and a lot of extremely vulgar humor and absurd situations that could only happen in an independent film. There is however, just enough sentimentality to keep it human and down to earth. In other words, if you make your girlfriend watch only one zombie movie this year, make this the one--it has enough echoes of romantic comedy to appeal to a larger audience. With that said, I am confident I am the target demographic: a male who grew up loving 80's movies. There are several scenes that seem a little too long but overall the pacing is good, the action is exciting, and the length felt right. Deadheads is not going to change the world. But if you have an interest in humor, gore, and want to be entertained for an hour and a half it is worth your time.
