One of my all time favorites.
Best movie ever!
As Good As It Gets
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
I guess this is worth watching if you have nothing better to do. There are many other "chick- flicks" that are far better than this movie, though. I am usually a nut for such movies that are harmless and non-violent, but this one is just a little too slow for entertainment. If you are into chick-flicks and you bored with nothing else to do with bad weather outside--watch it once just to see it (but only if it comes on TV; wouldn't recommend paying to rent.)It has a good ending, a beautiful song at the end, and an overall good plot; but really has its slow and boring parts. 4/10
Uptown Girls (2003): Dir: Boaz Yakin / Cast: Brittany Murphy, Dakota Fanning, Heather Locklear, Marley Shelton, Donald Faison: Formula driven crass gesture class and age. This film ages fast without the class. Brittany Murphy is relieved of her apartment when her rock star boyfriend fails to return and she is advised to get a job. She ends up being the nanny to a spoiled eight year old girl whose mother is never there for her. Predictable formula that has been done countless times with different faces. Directed by Boaz Yakin who previously made the overrated and boring Remember the Titans. Murphy is the one performance that passes even though her breaking through to Dakota Fanning is all too obvious. Fanning is talented but basically going through the motions of a role that ends up right where viewers predict she will and she will be stubborn the whole way. Supporting roles are the usual flat props. Marley Shelton plays Murphy's friend who offers room for her. Too bad she didn't offer a better script. Donald Faison plays another one of her friends and he isn't any more intriguing than Shelton. Heather Locklear is the biggest waste as Fanning's workaholic mother. How many times have we seen this transitions? The message doesn't matter because this film exists sorely for the employment opportunity for those unfortunate in the Hollywood job bank. Score: 3 / 10
"Uptown Girls" is a movie that some people told me good about, but in fact, it's not that great. Brittany Murphy is beautiful as always, but her characters feels dead for the most of the time; I dare even to state she acts badly in here-- which is unusual to her. The child in this film feels over the top, delivering an unconvincing character. Plot also isn't well elaborated, feeling cheap and cliché, so I don't see how so "many" people adored it. To be honest, four stars out of ten is a generous act of mine, considering it's a bad production anyways. Brittany Murphy surely has made better works, so it's not of those to remember her in.
I'm not really into this movie, my wife is. But i watched it and it was good. Better than good. That's why I can't believe so many people said so many good things about it but nobody gave it above 7 stars? Do you want to support these actors careers or not? No wonder Britney Murphy is dead.Hear me out. What's a ten star film? A movie that is so awesome you can watch any time whenever and has no production or acting flaws.a 9 close to that but might be one thing you hate, or just might be a movie you aren't in the mood for that often but is still awesome.an 8 would be an all around good movie, that's just not amazing.a 7 would be an all around good movie that has one or two flaws, a 6 would be something you struggle through.2-5 would be a movie you turn off or fall asleep too at various points in time (right away or towards the end).a 1 would be you wouldn't even turn on.
