Why so much hype?
People are voting emotionally.
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Good concept, poorly executed.
I never played DOA game before in my life but it looks similar to Tekken. Maybe one day I will buy one and play it.The film isn't good but good special effects and fight scenes too. The reason why I watched this film because I know the director 'Corey Yuen' who made some best martial art films like Ninja in the dragon's den, Righting Wrong and Fong Sai Yuk 1 and 2.Tina vs Zack fight scene, Corey copied the exactly same fight choreography from 'She shoots straight (1990)'.If you like Jet Li then watch Fong Sai Yuk 1 and 2, both good martial art movies, a lot of action and comedy.
Various fighters are invited to a martial arts fighting tournament for $10 million. The tournament is run by Dr. Victor Donovan (Eric Roberts). Four of the contestants include princess Kasumi (Devon Aoki), wrestler Tina Armstrong (Jaime Pressly), thief/assassin Christie Allen (Holly Valance), and Helena Douglas (Sarah Carter). They would find the tournament's terrible reason for being. This doesn't hide its video game roots. It's concentrating mostly on the girls. It's definitely going for the young male audience. It's a lot of hot girls with limited clothing doing jiggle-fighting. The story, such as it is, is a bit thin. There is the main mystery of what happened to Kasumi's brother in a previous tournament. As for the action, the fighting is rather quick paced and energy driven. The best standout actor is the compelling Jaime Pressly who gives some much needed comedy to the movie. This is not a good movie by any means, but this is relatively entertaining for a movie based on a video game.
It was absolutely unbearable to watch this. Everything was bad all around the board- from costume design to script to the actors (who I actually feel sorry for). It appears that the director or the writer- whoever- simply saw a cover for this game. I loved the game! This is just so beyond everything. Hayabusa, Hayate- all your favorites are totally slandered in this ridiculous attempt at a "movie." I watch it just to feel my heart break at how it ruins all of the characters. However, I must say that the only gleaming star in the pile of trash! is Tina played by Jaime Pressly. She looked the role and gave it her 100%. Great job Jaime- i'm so sorry you had to deal with the people who produced this pile of junk. The scenes lack any depth. As a matter of fact, so do the characters. The plot lines, all of the back stories, everything that we know and love are barely touched and often misconstrued and ambiguous. The fitness of the overall characters can be summed up by what my friend said "Looks like they just got off the couch" pertaining to the physique of these characters. Hayabusa was so small and puny I would not feel threatened by his presence whatsoever. Kasumi was a joke as was Ayane. Watch for the laughs but be prepared to pee yourself silly. It's bad.
Today, I watched this film for the forth time and noticed this time that Eric Roberts ruined the film in many ways. This had everything one should except: Hot girls that can fight (Jaime Pressly, Devon Aoki, Holly Valance, Sarah Carter, Natassia Malthe and all of which received training from martial arts experts. Pressly worked out for a few months in addition to look the part), there were good action sequences, and lots of fun throughout the movie. There were also well choreographed fights, tight camera angles, and well placed moments such as the volley ball game to reflect that this is based on the video game. But every time I saw Eric Roberts in a scene I felt like I was watching some B-Movie from the 1990s. He reads lines like a soap opera star, lacks motivation to play a villain, and as a fighter he isn't believable. All of his fighting moves looked clumsy too. He ruined this for a lot of people. I find him funny. If you are interested in other movies like this, you might wanna check out a list I created called Tough Ladies of Film:http://www.imdb.com/list/xoKDjc5RSoA/ Oh and I gave this a ten because so many wrongfully gave it a one. I'd really rate this an eight.
