Sorry, this movie sucks
Good concept, poorly executed.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I heard a lot of bad reviews but I honestly think that this movie doesn't deserve it. Chun-Li was always my favourite character and to see a film just of her was so entertaining. I watched it when it first came out and I'm watching it again. It's better now. And Vega and Chun-Li always had bad blood. It's fun to watch them fight.
Many reviewers wrote that this was the worst movie they've seen including, story and acting but I assume they never seen Twilight. This is a top quality movie. And I'm writing this as a hardcore Street Fighter fan and Chun Li player almost for 20 years. I'm still playing with Chun Li and Cammy on Street Fighter X Tekken. We - who know and play the game - expecting that the movie suppose to look like the game. They tried it before and it was horrible. Some reviewers mentioned from the costumes but do you really believe that those character always wearing those outfits? Those are their tournament outfits and outside of the tournament they might be people who wearing regular outfits as portrayed on this movie.I'm glad they kept it that way because none of my friends are nerds like me who play Street Fighter over years and it would be very hard to explain them in cinema that why characters wearing clothes like that. They kept it elegant black. One another thing about clothes; Vega's costume was very elegant. All black and silver mask with his silver claws. I was only expecting him to be a taller and super handsome Spanish guy. Other than that he really was like an assassin. Some people said only Chun Li, Bison, Vega, Balrog are from the game but there was also Gen. The only thing that other reviewers I agreed about was the overdone cop scenes and characters.Fighting scenes were very good except the Kikouken. That wasn't necessary, or it could be executed with a less trying-to-be-fancy way just maybe a white flash of a powerful hit. And her final hit to Bison could be much better. Many reviewers pushing too far to Kristin Kreuk on her acting also. I'm not going to defend her because she don't need to be defended. Obviously she worked very hard for this movie. And she definitely gave her best. Everyone us must know that we don't have to be the best in the world, we just have to give our best to what we are doing. If you are a reading person, you can find this motto on many successful, happy and healthy people's biographies. She fought with greatness and elegance and portrait very well that how Chun Li became the Strongest Woman In The World that every men bow before her. The only thing I've missed is a bit more muscle mass. IF Miss Kreuk were built some bulky and ripped muscle mass for this movie, that would be truly awesome. Her soft, sweet and soothing voice telling the story during the movie was also beautiful. I'm giving 10 stars to balance the extreme 1 star rates. It was a quality movie with a good and realistic story and execution. If you are fan of the game with friends who fan of the game and go see this movie you all dislike it. But if you are a fan of the game and have regular friends who has no idea what Street Fighter is (like me) - when you go together to this movie you never need to explain anything because it's down-to-earth and finely told story.I watched it many times, tonight just watched it once again just to write this. And enjoyed it a lot once again... Now I can play some Street Fighter!
This terrible movie makes Van Damme movie look like a masterpiece in comparison. The movie makers were promising a more mature picture that will change the fate of movies based on computer games forever. Promises , promises The movie seems to follow "Batman begins". The story about Chun Li reminds me quite a lot of Wayne's story – similar motivation , traveling around the world , finding a teacher from secret society , becoming an urban legend. The inspiration is good , but it's badly made. The movie wants to be realistic , yet the fights defy the laws of gravity and there are magical powers too. The Dark knight trilogy had more or less far fetched science fiction gadgets , but bringing a magic into movie is a completely different thing. I mean seriously it just looks stupid and laughable when other characters seem to treat it as something natural . Either the movie makers should make a movie in fantastical world (like Van Damme's movie) where magic would be natural or set the movie in real world and don't use it . You can't have both the realistic world and magic . Same goes for the over the top fights . The lack of gravity in "Matrix" makes sense , here it doesn't.The acting is awful . The only good actor here is Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) , but even he is limited by terrible dialogue lines. It's sad to see him in another crappy movie. I guess it was really hard for him to find a good role worthy his talent considering his physical appearance. Kristin Kreuk who plays the main role is pretty and actually OK . She puts a heart in her performance , but she can't save this big mess. Other actors and actresses should never do anything related to movie making.I doubt that fans of computer game will be satisfied with this movie as adaptation . With the exception of Chun Li other characters who appear here barely resemble the characters from the game. Especially Vega who was supposed to be bad ass , yet ends pathetic. I understand the need for changes , but in the end Van Damme's movie has much more cheesy charm and reminds the game better. It also doesn't take itself too seriously like "Chun Li movie" .Bad acting , dialogue , badly written screenplay , many scenes who were supposed to be awesome are laughable (the seduction of Bison's assistant , soul into child , escape from torture and many more) , dumb fights , weak special effects. Jesus ,seriously better watch Van Damme's movie . At least is unpretentious and funny.I give it 1/10.
Here we have yet another movie that uses the Street Fighter name, yet has no idea who the individual characters are. Every one, with the exception of Barlog and Vega, were completely out of their " Street Fighter " character .This movie would have done much better if they dropped the Street Fighter name, and come up with something original. On it's own, it's an alright martial arts / revenge flick / action genre, nothing spectacular, but still an average B action movie ( better than most of Steven Seagal's movies ). The good points: Camera work was pretty good. Fight choreography was OK. Set design was good. The not so good points: The actors were trying, but their deliveries were awkward at times. There are a few plot holes that are never explained. The music at the club scene - WHY did they choose something that BAD? Decisions made by Chun-Li, no real life human would ever do. A lot of padding was used that slows the movie down to a snails pace. Overuse of wire " acrobatics " during combat ( along with pseudo Matrix sound effects thrown in ).If your in the mood for a generic action movie, and have nothing better to watch, this movie would be perfect for you.
