I saw this on live TV either the year it came out or the following year. This one moved me. Unlike any other film I have ever seen. Only negative is it left me wanting more. Masterfully filmed, written and the acting is top notch. This is a powerful story of female vampires or revenant beings who do not age. What I loved about this film is how it felt like watching two films side by side one that takes place centuries ago in the past and another in modern day. I was fascinated by the unique approach the creators chose to explain how a revenant is made.

Overall excellent Vampire movie! This movie has everything a Vampire movie lover wants. The acting is great, the story is original with a good ending, and the characters are very believable. Couldn't ask for a better movie. I rated it 10 out of 10 for just that reason. I don't see any reason to give it a lower rating. I rate my movies by if I would watch it a second or third time. This one I would for sure. The story is about a mother and daughter and their lives as Vampires. It takes several turns, as most movies do, and comes out in the end with you wanting more. Hopeful, someday, there will be a part 2. Jim W

its basic virtue - to remind the flavor, force, game of dark and light of old Gothic stories. to propose a theme with subtle, precise use of nuances. to have the perfect actors for a trip on the bridge between present and past. to propose the right solutions and to ignore, in wise manner, the frontier between bad and good. one of films who reminds not exactly the rules of a genre but a rich tradition who, in the last two decades, was , in many senses, with many occasions, ignored. references to myths and legends. atmosphere of XIX century and slices from contemporary educational system. and Saoirse Ronan doing an impressive role. not the least - a smart use of cliché. who saves even the predictable end and propose an interesting way to a popular trend.

Either you expect an on- screen Gothic novel or From Dusk Till Dawn, this movie has nothing to do with the latter and very little in common with the former. I liked it, but it is a slow, pensive piece of cinema, and definitely less horror-like than you may think. There is a lot of poetry and melancholy- a good deal of despair, too. Saoirse Ronan' s Eleanor Webb is perhaps the sweetest, most courageous and compassionate creature of her kind I have ever seen. Much of the story is about love, solitude, and the struggle to bear the burden of a secret that haunts you, stealing from you every freedom, every hope for love or even domestic peace. The photography is neat, the music hypnotic- some scenes a real pleasure to the sight. The actors are good- all of them. At the end, I was left in a haze of sweet sadness, with many questions and lots of ideas in my head. It might be neither perfect nor a classic within the genre, but Byzantium certainly gifts its spectator with something magic and unique: imaginative worlds to explore, even after credits have faded on the screen. Watch it when you have time, when you can simply sit down and enjoy the story her protagonist wants to tell you. Consider it a crooked, dark, yet delicate fairy tale.
