Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
When some sharks are released into a the lake at the quiet town of Lake Tahoe, it's up to an overzealous cop who ignores the law, her love interest and a criminal to stop those sharks before the body counts rises further. Shark Lake is the kind of straight to DVD Dolph Lundgren film that i feared that it was going to suck but thankfully it did not and i'll tell you why. First of all it's fun seeing Lundgren kicking a big shark away or punching him in the face so he can let him go and 2nd of all it's a shark movie where people die and 3rd of all it has a big plot device about a woman that adopted this little and adorable blonde girl and her father that is a criminal and tries to do things right and i gotta say that whole plot with the Family and the Custody of the child i gotta say it was quite good and the acting wasn't as bad as some people said it was sure it wasn't Oscar Worthy but it wasn't awful either Sara Malakul Lane and Lily Brooks O'Briant have a nice chemistry together and that shows quite well threw out the whole film and Dolph Lundgren is pretty good too. Now where the movie kinda "fall down on it's knees" is where you get the glimpse on the Shark which is an awful looking computer effect plus there's some of those dumb moments that every single of this films seem to have in common which is some chick with big boobs that kisses a guy inside the water and he ends up dying or just some chick loosing her leg from one of the sharks and i could honestly see those stuff coming from a mile away but even with those problems aside i still enjoyed the movie: is it Jaws kind of level good? Hell no but it's no Jaws 3-D or Jaws: The Revenge and you can see Dolph Lundgren kicking a Shark away for about 2 minutes so your welcome. (9/10)
"Shark Lake" is one of those types of movies where you look at the movie cover or the poster and think "why?". But still, it is a Dolph Lundgren movie, so I decided to sit down and watch it. I did grow up watching his movies after all."Shark Lake" is not Dolph Lundgren's brightest moment in cinema history, not even by a long shot. Actually, I will go as far as to question why he actually did this movie, because it was just such a far slip away from his previous countless action movies, both good and questionable ones. The story in this movie is about Clint Gray (played by Dolph Lundgren), a former criminal trying to do right by his estranged daughter Carly Gray (played by Lily Brooks O'Briant). But when the local lake falls prey to vicious man-eating sharks, single-mom and overzealous police offer Meredith Hendricks (played by Sara Malakul Lane) pick up arms to defend the town and her daughter Carly. But the danger of the sharks and the fate of the dealt cards in her hand leave her crossing paths with her former husband Clint Gray...Right, well there was nothing overly Shakespearian or thespian to this storyline. It is a simple storyline, for sure, but it serves it purpose well enough, because it doesn't really beat around the bush. However, a shark movie needs to have sharks that are realistic and that you actually think of as being a real threat. However, the sharks in "Shark Lake" failed to deliver that, and they were more of a CGI internship project gone straight to DVD.The action in "Shark Lake" was adequate, taking into consideration what kind of movie this is. However, it should be said that you shouldn't get your hopes up here, if you are a fan of Dolph Lundgren in any way, because it wasn't up to level with his usual movies.Having seen this movie, I can now cross it off the list. And I can with all honesty say that I will never be making a return trip to watch "Shark Lake", because it doesn't support more than a single viewing in any way; and actually if you do get through the first viewing then that is an accomplishment in itself. If you enjoy shark movies, stay well clear of "Shark Lake". If you enjoy Dolph Lundgren movies, don't go out of your way to watch "Shark Lake". It is, in fact, a less than mediocre movie experience in every sense of the word.
Panic spreads in a small town when a killer shark begins to attack natives and tourists. Now the authorities and a few local fisher mans must try to stop the beast from making any more victims. This one can be categorized among a list of the worst movies from 2015. It fits perfectly. There is not too much shark action and when is, it's with low quality and unwatchable. Dolph Lundgren's appearance is wasted, here he is like making more of his presence rather then play a part. I don't get why he even bother to appear. So in conclusion you will not see to much sharks in this one, like the title suggests, but these are the expectations from a bad movie. Skip it if you are sick with the same steps and clichés already seen in other movies and choose a better one following this idea but better made and with more action and actors who give their interest so the outcome is more pleasant for the viewer.
My quick rating - 3,5/10. Really bad. I do appreciate the CGI swimmers against a underwater backdrop that has to be public domain video at this point. The movie is laughable to that level and the only shimmering glimpse of hope is the story? Did I really just say that? If you take away the stupid supposed horror element of normal sized bull sharks hanging out in a lake you actually have a somewhat interesting idea. The romance involves the dealer that sells exotic animals and something he lets lose in the water happens to have babies and is a shark. OK, dumb there, but when it is revealed for other purpose just seemed like the story warped two together since he did so to get back with his ex. OK, sounds dumb, but I saw a glimmer of hope, didn't say it was great. Either way, avoid this movie but maybe Jerry Duggan has something up his sleeve(if he hangs onto his screenplay writer) for something better.
