Absolutely the worst movie.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
This movie really really had a long beginning. In the first ten minutes, QUAIL was mentioned a total of 50 times. If I had a PENNY for how many times this movie mentioned quail and saffron sauce, I'd be richer than our President. Although the only liar and rat is Nick, the male lead, this is a definitive copy of Ratatouille. I was quite shook by the death of the sister, and in all honesty the daughter didn't contribute to the plot as much as needed. It was like the movie wanted to be a Drama, a Comedy, and a Romance all at once. It was quite the mess. It was no quail. It was no quality. Both the answering machine, and the weatherman were MALE. Barbaric! The only female leads were the female lead, the female boss, and the female child. AND THE PREGNANT LADY AND THE ACTRESS. There was no females at all!! Throughout the movie, despite Kate's various rules- she followed NO health regulations. Even though the food made me quite hungry, the way she handled it did not at all. And oh, quail. Anyways, the actress girl and the couple all went to the freezer often- to do their own activities idk whatever. The child claimed to only like Italian food YET she liked the pancakes SO. this is clearly a lie. Kate left the child alone so many times, or with untrustworthy human beings- WTF WAS SHE DOING. For a professional chef, this woman knows nothing of cooking to people's likes. THIS IS A CHILD. a white child. she knows not how to eat a whole fish. such as my friend jasmine. kate refused to feed the child fish sticks at first EVEN THO her whole restaurant ONLY HAS QUAIL. A FISH! would you believe that. oh quail. Kate refuses to eat in the afternoon- THAT'S MOST OF THE DAY. What kind of health professional chef doesn't eat in the afternoon. Throughout the story, we learn that Nick is a Liar. AND HE WEARS CROCS AND PJS. crocs? children's ENEMY. ADULTS lawsuits.Even when the babysitter SMOKED Kate was barely concerned. Just threw it out. Oh, and quail. Kate forgets her kid, even though legit it's like her only responsibility. Liek honey, get your life together. Many characters serve no purpose in the story, and could easily be cut out with the knife that Kate carries everywhere- cuts papers with- and maybe people we don't know. Jasmine gave up on speaking by now. Quail. Anyways, the movie had Michael Bible music, making it redeemable. Nick was smoking someone the entire movie. He is legit a 14 year old in a man's body. Zoe is older. This child. THIS CHILD. Oh my freaking quail. This child, she told her school that she was SLAVING away in the kitchen for room and board with her aunt. W T F. She also ran into the street with cars. Nick finally started wearing pants. Meagan was SHOOKTH. Kate keeps getting an accent- then losing it MID WAY HER SENTENCE. Much diversity of language. Much proud. Much Spanish. The kissing didn't have slurping sounds, A+. She said it tasted like Quail. Girl slays and quits job. She says im done with the patriarchy. They open diner. Twins are different kids. wtf. We are done.
The plot is very solid as well as the storyline. Zeta-Jones and Eckhart did a good job in both their respective roles. The chemistry was pure rivalry and competition of who is the better chef, who cooks better, who has good presentation, whose food taste better, etc. The owner/ manager Patricia Clarkson (Paula) does not intervene on the rivalry nor competition but allow Eckhart to take full control of Zeta-Jones's puissance position. Zeta-Jones's character works hard at what she does for many years and crafted her signature dishes which the manager back stabs and double bind the puissance in the respective roles. Lesson learned in the real world: trust no one in any line of work or business. The relationship between Zeta-Jones and Eckhart characters later turns into love, romance and then business partners. Food is the international unspoken language as humans we need to eat to survive. Food binds people together. Majority of the scenes take place inside a restaurant kitchen as the master chef, cooks, Sous chefs, understudies cooks, assistants, etc. which NO ONE wear gloves or hair nets while handling food. This restaurant takes place in NYC and the NYC Health Department is very strict about handling food and food preparation. It appears the entire staff are bear hands which is a complete health code violation incurring loss of business license and hefty fines!! Filming a movie inside restaurant kitchens should appear realistic and close to authentic which means utilizing gloves and hair nets while handling food. Why Eckhart's wear ridiculous orange clogs in the kitchen and pajama-ish pants when he represents a professional Sous chef? The only chef kitchen attire are the staff wearing white chef robes as nothing else is in accordance to NYC Health Department standards.
First of all I want to say I give this Movie Ten out of Ten Stars. First rate acting, amazing cast and story line this is fun for the whole family to enjoy over popcorn and Coco. around a blaring fire there is no inappropriate subject mater what so ever. It is about the life of an amazing chef her Orphaned Niece and an up start cook.This is a film I would See again many times, it goes along the same lines as Chef also a great film in it,s own rights . the story lines of the 2 films are very similar also in Plot in as far as there are young kids involved, and star crossed lovers they both are ravishingly funny and Entertaining films That I would give 100 out of 100 stars to
Yes, I watch some rom-com's.Its not my choice. Most days I put my husband through a host of kung fu and horror movies so every so often I have to give in!But this one, No Reservations, was my fault.I bought him this for Xmas and in a moment of weakness, suggested we watch it...Brownie points!We are both big fans of Master Chef, so having this set in the kitchen of a fine dining restaurant was quite refreshing. Beautifully shot and genuinely acted, this to me was the kind of rom-com I actually would prefer to watch.Not that OTT crap like Love Actually, The Holiday etc, packed with Hollywood cheese that actually causes some acid reflux and makes you want to punch the screen. No Reservations actually pulls off falling into said category minus any cheese whatsoever, ironically even with its kitchen setting.Simple, touching and entertaining, NR was an enjoyable watch with great performances from all and a joy to watch!
