While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

Guess Who (2005) starring Ashton Kutcher (That 70's Show, Butterfly Effect), an early-career Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar), and the late Bernie Mac (The Bernie Mac Show, Oceans Eleven). Is a fun rom-com about a loveable Kutcher trying to win over the over-bearing father-in-law, played by Mac. The movie has some shining and endearing moments that make you frustrated to love the characters of this movie.I feel that the homophobia displayed by Mac's character and the interracial prejudice in the NY/NJ setting may not hold up as well in 2018 and can make the viewer suspend disbelief (side note - these observations are coming from a point of privilege for this writer.. and maybe I exist in a fish-bowl, but it's hard to picture many people like this). Dated views aside, the laughs are light enough and ubiquitous throughout to prevent it from hurting the film too much. The plot is nothing revolutionary, but this is a fun movie. It's not receiving a higher score because it follows the rom-com formula too predictably and has some content that doesn't feel to hold up as well over time. However, that doesn't stop it from achieving its goal of making the audience laugh. Check it out, and let us know if you agree or not!Currently available to stream on Netflix (as of 6.11.2018)Guess Who - 6/10

A remake of Guess who's coming to dinner, but this time, it's hilarious because Ashton Kutcher is the minority!! Oh the hilarity of racial tension.....Theresa takes her boyfriend, Simon home to meet her parents on the occasion of her parents' 25th wedding anniversary, planning to reveal that they are engaged. However, what Theresa has also left out is that Simon is white......Actually it's not as bad as you'd think because Mac and Kutcher have great chemistry in the film. And the the fact that Theresa's boyfriend is White is nothing more than a parlour trick, distracting the viewer. The film is nothing more than the age old problem that fathers have when their daughters grow up, hoping that the man they marry will provide for them, and be able to step up when the going gets tough. And although some of the humour does ebb towards cultural references (the dinner scene is the lowlight of the film), it's charming enough just to get by with Mac getting on at Kutcher throughout the film. It's never going to be anything else but a background film, but there are a few funny moments.RIP Bernie Mac.

I know the movie was supposed to be humorous, but i found it rude and extremely racist towards white people. If there were a comedy made like this but the roles were reversed where it was a black man dating a white woman and he was meeting her white family for the first time and if the white family were treated him the way they treated the white man in this movie it would be severely frowned upon and not humorous at all. Although, because its a white man going into a black family were supposed to look at it as humorous? I think its unfair and disrespectful. I'm sure it would be very much frowned upon but when its the way this movie is everyone expects you to laugh at the racism of white people. Its wrong, i do not like this movie at all.

Guess Who is a funny comedy that Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac are hilarious in separately and as a team. The movie is about a guy who has to face mans worst dream, meeting his fionseys parents and to make matters worse they are black and he is white. This movie is very light hearted and is done really well with Ashton Kutchers character being the silly one and Bernie Mac being the serious one. This movie is good for many reasons 1. It has all the laughs you could want from a movie like this, 2. It does the black/white thing in a responsible way and do not get too racist or stuff like that, 3. It is very understandable and does not lose meaning. Overall I think this movie is very underrated and a must see for movie Goa's every where. So I rate it 84%.
