Save your money for something good and enjoyable
good back-story, and good acting
Am i the only one who thinks........Average?
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
When the world's media descend on the remote Scottish island where a Hollywood actress is attempting to get married, a local girl is hired as a decoy bride to put the paparazzi off the scent. Despite the good cast 'The Decoy Bride' was unfortunately pretty cheesy and dumb to say the least and your typical bad english comedy that never strikes a fair punch of laughs or entertainment. David Tennant and Alice Eve are very good actors and they have proved it in various projects but this poorly written comedy does not offer them anything to do. (F)
I have to be honest, the only reason this movie caught my eye on netflix is because the main character is the voice of Disney's Merida! I am not sure I would have watched it otherwise but I am glad that I did. Very cute and uplifting movie. Her scottish accent is simply delightful throughout the entire film. Her character is very relatable and kind. I did not care for the male lead as much but I found myself liking him vicariously through her. It was fairly obvious that the male lead and the movie star did not belong together right from the start so we are able to excuse his blatant attraction to the quirky scottish girl he just met. It is interesting that the entire world wants Lara but he truly does not.It was definitely a little slow in some parts and some casting could have been better but it was overall very enjoyable. I would have liked to have seen more of her past and what happened to end her engagement. The scenes with Angus were kind of strange and made me feel badly for his new wife.Lara falling for the slimy paparazzi in the end was an interesting twist. I wish we would have seen more of that too. I loved that line in the end "a book can be just a chapter" and how she taught him how to be a better writer and person. She was so vulnerable in the end when she told him he didn't have to marry Lara, but that he could choose to stay there with her. My heart was in my throat for her! Such a brave, beautiful moment and it ends up working out for her!Perfect feel good, cutesy movie if you just want to laugh and smile.
This film tells the story of a famous Hollywood actress going to a remote Scottish island to get married, in order to avoid the omnipresent press. Her agent finds a decoy bride to deflect attention, but the guy ends up marrying the decoy by mistake. It's a predictable romantic comedy, but it's really sweet. How the two leads jab at each other initially is also fun to watch. And the scenery of Hegg, which probably very few people have heard of, is beautiful. It captures the tranquility of the place, but unfortunately the portrayal of the locals isn't so nice. They are portrayed to be money grabbing opportunists. Overall, "The Decoy Bride" is a fun and light hearted film to watch. I enjoyed it.
Sure it follows the standard formula of all romantic comedy films but, while I'm a fan of Romcoms and always hope they're going to be really good I find they almost never are. Unfortunately most of them score about a 3 (just watchable with a few good scenes or funny moments) down to -10 (complete waste of time). "The Decoy Bride" is a real treat. Especially if you're a Kelly MacDonald fan. Rest of cast is good too. Written by the wonderful comedian Sally Phillips who co-stars with Neil Jaworski and starring David Tennant. Excellent chick flick but a great in-home date night movie rental with your male significant other (unless he's a Vin Diesel fan in which case don't bother). You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll thank yourself for checking this movie out.
