Jack Carter, a mob enforcer living in Las Vegas, travels back to his hometown of Seattle for his brother's funeral. During this visit, Carter realizes that the death of his brother was not accidental, but a murder. With this knowledge, Carter sets out to kill all those responsible. Get Carter is a 2000 Remake of the same name and stars Sylvester Stallone, Rachael Leigh Cook, Miranda Richardson, Rhona Mitra, Alan Cumming, Mickey Rourke, John C. McGinley and Michael Caine and it's some sort of an "Anti-Revenge Thriller" that received a lot of bad reviews from critics and was a box office flop and although i understand why at a certain degree i didn't find the movie to be that bad as many critics said it was actually a fun and enjoyable movie and Sylvester Stallone gave a terrific performance as Jack Carter and in my opinion he fits the part perfectly plus he had a great chemistry with Rachael Leigh Cook who plays Doreen. Now my major flaw with the film was the rest of the cast that was simply not that good to begin with and even Cain's character was just kinda forgettable at times but the action, the cinematography, the soundtrack and Stallone were pretty good and if you ever find it on TV, Netflix or even on DVD check it out it's no Masterpiece for sure but it's a good action/drama film. (8/10)

Jack Carter (Sylvester Stallone) is a Las Vegas mob casino collector. He returns to Seattle for his brother Richie's funeral. Jack is suspicious and starts investigating. Richie's wife Gloria (Miranda Richardson) and daughter Doreen (Rachael Leigh Cook) are not close to Jack. Richie ran Cliff Brumby (Michael Caine)'s club. Cliff claims that the mysterious Geraldine (Rhona Mitra) is Richie's mistress. Jack finds bottom feeder Cyrus Paice (Mickey Rourke) now as a local porn king working for wealthy Jeremy Kinnear (Alan Cumming). Meanwhile Jack's boss back in Vegas is looking for him.Sly tries to be interesting and gritty. It's laying down some heavy style with limited success. The plot doesn't really move. There is a little bit of fun with Sly going up against Mickey Rourke. It would be better to give more drive to Jack's mission. It needs something that could raise the stakes like kidnapping Doreen. This needs to have a mission other than just investigating Richie's death. If that's all there is, then he should start breaking fingers and busting heads. It also means that he could drop the case at any time. This is a scatter shoot of villains and random dark stylistic choices.

***SPOILERS*** It's when Jack Carter, Sylvester "Sly" Stallone, got the news that his kid brother Richie, Mike Cook, was killed in a drunken car accident he decided to get the first plane out of Las Vages to Seattle and check things out. Being the top head cracker for the Vages Mob Carter used his extraordinary talents of cracking heads as well as breaking bones to uncover the true reasons behind Richie's unfortunate accident. You see Richie being a good church going family man didn't drink and drive and as Carter sees it the drinking that he did that lead to his death was strictly involuntary.Brutal and at times senseless crime revenge movie with Stallone as Jack Carter out to get his brother's killers where he ends up breaking every law in the books including cold blooded murder, in one case in front of about 100 eye witnesses, yet he seems at the same time totally immune with no one in the Seattle Police Department bothering to take the time to arrest him.As we soon find out the reason that Richie was murdered is that his teenage daughter Doreen, Rachael Leigh Cook, was picked by some of mob boss and porn connoisseur Cyrus Paice, Mickey Rourke, boys from a local nightclub and after getting her both drugged and drunk brutally raping her. With Richie having the evidence of Paice's men crime, a secretly recorded DVD, he was kidnapped beaten drenched with cheap booze and driven off the highway to his death on Cyrus orders. Carter determined to avenge Richie's murder then goes to a party thrown by Cyrus and after a brutal beating that Cyrus gave him evened the score by later himself working Cyrus over and blowing his brains out! All that right in front of some dozens of shocked party goers who didn't not only bother to call the police or come to Cyrus' aid, shads of the 1964 Kiddy Genovease murder, but even come forward to identify Carter as Cryus' murderer! ***SPOILERS****But as Carter intended to do in the first place he got the job done by finally finding out who really had ordered his kid brother's murder and as it turned out it wasn't Cyrus at all. But it was the person-the Porno King of Seattle-who had the most to lose if that DVD was made public and in the end in what you would call a Carter VRS Carter confrontation it was Jack Carter, the 2000 version, who prevailed. Besides the awful lighting in the movie where you couldn't at times tell who was who and what was what the most weirdest thing going for "Get Carter" was Stallone's suite paths as well as white shirt & ties. Stallone's clothes were far more indestructible then he, as Jack Carter, was in the movie. They never get dirty or wrinkled or even wet with all the rain there was at the time in Seattle. And even more astounding they never for once needed to be dry leaned or pressed looking in all the scenes that they were in the movie worn by Sylvester "Sly" Stallone as if they just came off the rack! Sylvester "Sly" Stallone's real life brother Frank has a cameo role in the movie as one of the mourners at Richie Carter's funeral.

This movie is a good example of why, in my opinion, the official ratings by on Rotten Tomatoes, made by the so called (professional) critics, are generally worthless. Currently this movie has a rating of 12% according to Rotten Tomatoes which, of course, will lead everyone not aware of how crappy their system actually is to believe that the film is utter crap and that is really utter crap. This movie is nothing fantastic. It would even qualify as a B-flick, but it is not really bad. It is a nice enough action/thriller flick to kill an evening with without really getting disappointed. I have not seen the original one so I am not pre-conditioned against this movie which perhaps helps.Sylvester Stallone does a quite acceptable performance in the role of the silent and threatening mob enforcer. He plays as you would expect him to do and if you do not like Stallone, well then there is not much to do about it. Personally I think he has his style and I like it and do not really want him to change it just because some critics find it "lacking".The movie itself and the story is also fairly okay. Again nothing fantastic or particularly innovative but good enough. It has its ups and downs though. Especially in terms of pacing which is a bit uneven. Sure, not everything can be car chases or fist fights but when it slows down it really slows down. Even though it is a gangster/action/thriller movie it is not overly violent. As a matter of fact it is fairly tame in the sense that, as soon as someone actually gets killed this happens off the scene and is left to the viewer's imagination. A bit silly if you ask me but it did not really bother me too much either so.Close to the end the director indulges himself in some very annoying psychedelic flickering scenes, presumably to hide some of the violence in the final fighting between Stallone and the bad guy. That did bother me. I really do not like such epilepsy inducing nonsense. Not that I have epilepsy but it still strains my eyes and really bother me.Anyway, it was a decent enough movie and certainly good enough to get, at least, an average rating.
