Pretty Good
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
I found it was a good comedy with a good story about friends growing apart and enjoying your youth. The film may be not be for everyone as some of the humour is quite crude and at times rather silly but compared to other comedies about young adults I found it refreshing showing the reality of young adults drinking and taking part in anti-social behaviour. I don't know what it is maybe I have really terrible taste in movies I don't know but 21 & Over had me laughing from the start till the end. This film reminds me of all the American pies but less nudity, so if your a fan off the American pies I think you will definitely be fond of this film. 21 & Over is just a funny teen\young adult movie! I mean it's not a serious film it was made simply just for fun and it does make me smile, I always feel merry after watching it in some weird way. 21 & Over follows two boys Casey and Miller who just want to show there best friend Jeff Chang a good time for once in his life. The story unfolds and a range of hysterical acts unravel. The film is unpredictable and funny to watch and weirdly I believe teaches a sort off lesson that maybe sticking to the normal go to high school, go to college, get job routine that every person seems to do isn't necessary correct enjoying your life is important to, I like this film.
Miller (Miles Teller) and Casey (Skylar Astin) are old high school friends to JeffChang (Justin Chon). They haven't seen him for awhile, and they plan to party for his 21st birthday. Miller is a crass idiot. Casey wants to be reserved and is infatuated with beautiful Nicole (Sarah Wright). JeffChang gets pass out drunk, and the guys have to figure out where he lives. The three guys are lesser versions of better actors elsewhere. The story is a lesser version of other drunken party animal movies. Even the guys make-out scene is a lesser version of 'American Pie 2'. In this movie, it doesn't get a laugh. A lot of this movie don't get a laugh. I do like the guys, but the movie needs better everything. Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are first time directors, and it shows.
21 & Over is the directorial debut from the writers of the Hangover trilogy, and it could have easily been called The Hangover Jr. It's Jeff Chang's 21st birthday and his High School friends show up to take him out. With a big interview in the morning, the boys are planning on taking it easy, but things don't quite turn out that way. I was expecting this film to be yet another chance to exploit the magic of the first Hangover film, but surprisingly it does not. The story has many similarities, but also a uniqueness about it. 21 & Over does manage to capture that amazing chemistry and magic that made the Hangover legendary. The whole time I was watching this film, I couldn't help but think, why didn't they put this kind of thought into the Hangover sequels? Don't get me wrong, I liked the sequels, but neither one of this is as good as this film was. Justin Chon, unfortunately only known from the Twilight series, stars in a role that was seemingly made for him. This guy was so freaking funny, that I had to be careful not to wet my pants, almost every time he opened his mouth. The other stand out is Project X's Miles Teller, and while he's much better looking than Alan, he does manage to capture that lovable extreme weirdness that Zack Galifinakis had. It's easy to look at 21 & Over and say it's going to be just like the Hangover, and you wouldn't be wrong. Parts of the film are eerily similar, but the youth factor and college atmosphere does give the film a life of it's own and trust me when I tell you, it was absolutely hysterical.
