The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

As someone who rarely writes reviews, I must say that this is most definitely the most beautiful movie of all time. I started it with very low hopes and by the end I was stuck looking at the stunning masterpiece. I must also say that I had never cried during a movie or television show before. I've watched many movies. This was the only movie I've ever cried and it wasn't just a tear, I mean I was in full baby mode. The movie shows Maude teaching Harold something about life that I've never seen a movie, or even person, be able to teach anyone. You sit there as a viewer thinking you're watching Maude teach Harold but before you know it, Maude has taught you.

If someone offered me a chance to pick one movie that will be integrated in education I would definitely pick Harold and Maude. And that is an understatement in praising the movie itself. When talking about the movie, you get to wonder what to mention first, but I guess it's basic theme of life and death gets to be the main talking point. It is a wonderful metaphor for a constant struggle young people face everywhere, every day. And the subject is so basic and every-daily that it is fascinating how fresh the movie is even to this day. But also, it is worth the praise - Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort perfectly embodied the opposing sides. Without their charisma and the vibe between them the movie would never be as good as it really is. And in the end, you get to see how a piece of music (the whole soundtrack is done by Cat Stevens) can mold the moods of this movie - the scene where Harold is driving by a huge cemetery with the piano playing is truly touching. It is not on my list of movies to watch before you die, it is one of my movies to watch so you can truly live.

Beautifully weird , twisted and dark with pitch black humour and some serious style and truly lovely chemistry between Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort. I loved the 4th wall breaks and overall attitude that comes with Harold and Maude... some people will be disgusted and put off by the premise and this film doesn't care in the slightness .Apart from a few pacing issues and instances of editing that has clearly aged badly , Harold and Maude is a wild and strange ride of a movie with a big big big (slightly deranged) heart.Honestly, I'm surprised it took me this long to watch Harold and Maude. It's such a fantastically fun film, with some really memorable characters and an atmospheric soundtrack provided by the legendary Cat Stevens.

My brother told me this was one of his favorite movies, so we watched it together. It was not at all what I expected, not that I had really any expectations to begin with. I'd heard the name mentioned, but never known anything about it, nor cared enough to do any research. As stated in the summary, it was a little to weird for my taste. Sure, it was funny (in a dark way) at points, and the relationship between Harold and Maude was all fine and dandy, but it went a little too far. And it was weird to witness. The ending was unexpected though, which added to it. I felt that the movie was a little rushed, with none of the intended change in Harold being found until the very end of the movie. The movie felt like it wasn't particularly paced well in this sense. Overall, this just isn't my kind of movie. Sure, it was enjoyable enough, but it really just didn't click with me. If you liked it, great. If you loved it, good for you. It's not for everybody, and it certainly wasn't for me. If your looking for something different and have a darker sense of humor, then take a look at Harold and Maude.
