If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Dinner for Schmucks (2010): Dir: Jay Roach / Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Jemaine Clement, Zach Galifianakis, Lucy Punch: Hilarious comedy not so much about idiots, but about those making such accusations. Paul Rudd wishes to move ahead in his job but first he must attend an annual dinner where he must bring an idiot for the amusement of the guests. He encounters Steve Carell who dresses up dead mice for scenery pieces. One of director Jay Roach's best and funniest. He previously introduced the world to the antics of Austin Powers. Carell is a hoot as the unpredictable nerd who lives to laugh but often causes havoc. Part of this is in no due part to his e-mail response on Rudd's computer to an intimidating ex-girlfriend. What Carell teaches us here is done in form by accepting who he is and whom others believe he is and running with it because in the end, he is the one who laughs loudest. Rudd is very good and a terrific foil to Carell's antics but his concluding decision is obvious. Among unique supporting players is Jemaine Clement, an exhibitionist laying claim to Rudd's girlfriend, and Zach Galifianakis as a corrupt hypnotist who will meet his match in a very strange way at the dinner. Lucy Punch is funny in a brief but pivotal scene as Rudd's stalking ex-girlfriend whom Carell makes contact with, resulting in brawl. This dinner is complete with a variety of strange looking characters that are suppose to be the brunt of a joke but we are left admiring their creative get-ups and egos. Very creative and unique comedy about judging others, and other such appetizers. Score: 9 / 10
This movie may not be the "best" movie out there, but it is fun and enjoyable if you have an easy-going sense of humor, instead of looking for Oscar in everything. Some great laughs and an all around fun time when viewing this movie. I believe that Steve Carrel was honestly perfect for this character and Paul Rudd portrayed the stressed office worker as you would imagine he does. Please give this movie a go and if you don't like it please don't rate it badly because others may. I almost didn't try this movie because of the rating on here buy I am very very glad that I did because it was very enjoyable.I can't stress enough hoe much this movie is great. I have to write extra lines so that this website will accept this review, and I want all of you to get to see it. If you are in this just for a chilled out laugh, rather than one that it is over criticised and analysed, then this movie is highly appropriate
Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Stephanie Szostak, Jemaine Clement and Bruce Greenwood star in this 2010 comedy. Rudd (Anchorman) plays Tim, an executive who pitches an idea to his boss, Fender (Greenwood). Fender decides to invite Tim to a dinner where his employees bring idiots as their guests. Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) plays Barry, a mild-mannered, not so bright guy Tim meets and decides to bring to the dinner. Barry complicates things for Tim at first, but Tim befriends him in the process. Barry also helps Tim work things out with his girlfriend, Julie (Szostak). Clement plays artist, Kieren who works with and has a thing for Julie. This isn't bad and Carell & Rudd are great together. I recommend this.
first of all I can't believe how low the rating is for this movie and i'm not even a fan of Steve really, I love 40 year old virgin but not much else with him starring in it. I was shocked at how funny this movie was and i saw it when it first came out.Everybody in it was great and the jokes were hilarious. I can understand if its not your type of movie but i'm seeing 1 and 2 stars reviews and it deserves way better than that. At Least give it a try if you're on the fence about it. Great movie! It can be a lil raunchy but i like that kind of comedy.
