To me, this movie is perfection.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
To be honest, anyone putting on a movie with Larry The Cable Guy, cannot expect to see an actor on the level of Paul Newman, or Charlton Heston (Both of which did a service comedy, I reviewed (In Newman's Ccase "The Secret War Of Harry Frigg: and Heston's "The Pigeon That Took Rome"). However, to be honest, this film is beyomd bad.DJ Qualls, is the absolute pits in his role of Everett, a pathetic version of Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis) from "Stripes". He was so bad, I cringed whenever I saw him (Particularly when he was shooting. As for Danny Trejo, the best thing I can say for him in this film, it is not his worst, that is "Machete" (Also known as the worst film I ever saw). The only thing worthwhile in this movie is Marisol Nichols as Maria, she is a knockout, but that is not enough to recommend. I give this film 1 star (For Marisol), and only because of her, does it avoid being in my top 10 all-time worst film list.
this movie i saw as a mistake. see, i was vacationing in Mexico, and there, we saw the Spanish title for this movie in the local theater without seeing the poster and thought we were gonna see tropic thunder. big mistake, i say. for starters, who the hell told the blue collar squad, specially that fatass named larry the cable guy, that they're cut for movies? it tries to give some chuckles by using hot but dumb blonde chicks and hick redneck jokes, with no results. then we have these idiots going to reserve training. granted, reserve forces are more relaxed than active duty, but these idiots treat it as a vacation. no doubt REAL reservists and guardsmen will not be amused. then there's the whole "i think were in iraq" crap. Jesus, they're your stereotypical patriot warmongering hicks who supposedly follow the war, how can they assume that iraq has, i don't know, MOUNTAINS?! and they see two Mexican peasants and because they have brown skin, they assume them to be iraqis! and anyone who has gone to a real rural Mexican town knows this movie is full of crap, cause Mexican towns don't look like this! it looks more like a set for a speedy gonzales cartoon. all in all, this movie fails for its gross humor lack of geographic skills and outdate racial humor. yeah, accuse me of taking this too seriously but ill tell you this, superbad, pineapple express, talladega nights, now those were funny. not surprisingly we walked out of this godawful pieces of cowcrap. in the end, it wasn't about being pro or anti war or loving or hating rednecks. it's about trying to have a good time at the movies and having it ruined. p.s. the reason i gave this 2 stars is that this in not AS bad as larry the cable guys other "crapsterpiece" health inspector.
Delta Farce is another Larry the Cable Guy comedy in which he plays a down on his luck guy who becomes an Army member along with his two friends. Bill Engvall, who has his own sitcom on TBS, participates in this as well and it all really turns out to be just a weak comedy. The whole plot is kind of dead, but it is kind of funny and does deliver a decent amount of laugh spots. Larry the Cable Guy is the funniest by some of the scenes and Engvall throws in some giggles, but this really isn't worth checking out for a normal comedy fan. There are so many other comedies that have been made that are so much better than this movie.
"Delta Farce" strains credibility even for a comedy whose sole purpose for existence is to strain credibility. Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall and DJ Qualls star as three imbecilic army reservists who are accidentally dropped off in Mexico on their way to Iraq. Unaware of the mix-up, the trio, believing at first that they are actually in Iraq, wind up fighting against some local gangsters who are terrorizing the inhabitants of a small rural village. As written by Bear Aderhold and Tom Sullivan and directed by C. B. Harding, "Delta Farce" is riddled with wheezy plot mechanics, tired lowbrow humor, and insulting stereotypes of gays and Mexicans, the latter of whom are portrayed as either gold-toothed, moustache-twirling banditos or backward children who not only cannot defend themselves against the bad guys but must rely on good old American ingenuity and know-how to get even the simplest menial task accomplished. This is especially offensive given that these American heroes are not too many DNA strands away from being certifiable idiots themselves. None of this would really matter so much if the movie itself had managed to be funny. As it is, however, this is about as thoroughly witless and lame-brained a comedy as has come our way in a long long time. The movie makers end on a sobering note, dedicating the film to the real military men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a nice gesture, I suppose, but don't our brave soldiers already have enough troubles over there without having to contend with a cinematic "tribute" like "Delta Farce"?
