A very feeble attempt at affirmatie action
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Never have I ever been so angry while watching a movie and yet so incredibly tired. I don't think I've yawned this much since watching Red Zone Cuba. I should probably preface this by saying I'm a huge fan of the original novel this film is based off of, a 1000 page epic that combines the setting of Planet of the Apes with the storytelling of I am Legend. It's a good book and I highly recommend reading or listening to it. But even after all that I was not prepared for the sheer level of awful that this movie was. Every actor is miscast, every set and costume look too fake, the cinematography literally makes this film almost impossible to watch, the music is unmemorable, every shot is bathed in hideous garish color filters, and the plot holes....oh god the plot holes. Not only are there thousands of things that don't make sense from just watching the movie on it's own, but after reading the book I saw that they deliberately went the extra mile to not make sense! The acting and dialog are the stuff of legends, some times the actors forget to react, or start laughing or howling out of nowhere. And this film might have the cheapest and lamest special effects I've seen that wasn't part of the Syfy channel. And even after all of that I was still so very tired and bored watching this, that's a special brand of bad film making right there. If you can make it through this two hour monstrosity, you have my respect.
This has to be the low life movie in an actor's career. John Travolta plays the character that is a cross between his character in Saturday night fever and an alien he was trying to be funny but boy was his acting horrible and he was not funny at all. The main character in the picture seem to always be running someplace and most of the time was in slow motion. It's hard to believe that no one else has made any type of reviews or comments on this movie it is just horrible the CGI is pretty good but the acting left a lot to be desired. I would have to say this is probably more of a comedy due to the poor acting.
In my perfect world, there would be ratings for people who rate movies. I would very much like to be able to quickly access like-minded peoples' opinions of a movie that I am interested in watching. Is there an app for this already? Please direct me to it if there is so that I don't have to search thru this mindless bunch of people who give numerous 1 star reviews. A clue; This is a 10 star rating system which is great if used properly. For example, you look and see a movie rated 7 or 8 or 9; all those #'s give you different nuanced, subtle feeling. If you get tired looking for a great movie, you start looking for anything over 5 and might settle even on a 5 if it was up your alley or had a favorite actor or two. No way are you going to watch a 4 or lower unless it's a cult classic or a friend says you "gotta see it" for some crazy scene or theme. So if you don't like a movie give it a 3 or a 4 or even a 5 if you have a bit of an insight that someone with different tastes might like it. But to give a movie a 1 star@"?# Reserve a 1 star the way that you should reserve a 10 star. Use it once or twice in your life and let it have an impact for yourself and the rest of us.
Now I'm not a person who likes all sorts of bad movies. For instance I think that "Dragonball: Evolution" and the American version of "Death Note" were disasters. I don't just like all movies, so hear my thoughts on this one. There are a bunch of high reviews here for this movie. A small percentage of people actually like this movie and I happen to be on of them. If you have the correct expectations and you're a hardcore Sci- Fi fan, then you may sincerely be one of the people can enjoy this.WHAT TO EXPECT: This is a low-budget post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi with over the top script and acting. It's done more in an old-school style instead of going for realism like movies nowadays (for instance Nolan's Batman trilogy, which tries to be realistic). As a huge Sci-Fi fan, I liked the movie because it has what I wanted form it: Futuristic visuals and a post-apocalyptic story. Visually I enjoyed the alien spaceship designs and certain environments (such as the alien colonial base and city ruins) even if they were low- budget. The post-apocalyptic story is interesting, it follows one the most known Sci-Fi novels. Personally I haven't read the novel, so can't comment on that much. The first 5 minutes leaves the worst impression (acting and script wise), but it got interesting after the aliens come in.BOTTOM LINE. HERE IS THE KEY POINT: I wasn't bothered by the acting or the script BECAUSE... Being a Sci- Fi fan, the post-apocalyptic story and futuristic visuals made this into an enjoyable experience, even if the script and acting isn't what you would call Oscar worthy. That's why some people really like this movie. Most people are extremely disappointed with the acting, dialogues and cheap visuals. So much that it's considered the worst movie ever. Based on my review, if you think you can enjoy it for what it is, give it a chance.
