Best movie ever!
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Disney bet and well as the result is quite interesting and far from being only a commercial and entertaining film because although it has those American and commercial touches the film encloses a background that goes beyond simple history. With a few good touches, Ponte in my place presents the story of a mother and daughter faced and misunderstood, both face without understanding each other living in a continuous conflict. With a touch of witchcraft the film presents the vision of two different stages of life, adolescence and personal maturity, worlds very different and often very misunderstood among them but put in my place presents them in a light and funny way with some Really funny and funny touches. The performances are very correct on the part of the mother and daughter, sometimes the family environment is a bit artificial but it is true that we are talking about a family comedy that is also to be seen a little further from the basic text as we see as many times Maturity forgets what is lived only once, the adolescence and that actually comprises a very short period if one comes to compare with personal maturity. The film invites to have a good time besides a deep reflection between the two stages of the man.
Fifteen year old Anna Coleman is convinced that her mother, widowed psychiatrist Dr Tess Coleman, doesn't understand her and to a degree she is right. Her mother believes that her daughter doesn't appreciate how hard adult life is and she is also right. Things come to a head when Anna's band is due to take part in an important audition on the night of her mother's wedding rehearsal. This leads to a confrontation at a Chinese restaurant; seeing them arguing the owner's mother gives each of them a fortune cookie and says something in Chinese. As Anna and her mother read their fortunes they feel an earthquake, which nobody else in the restaurant appears to notice. The next day they are in for a shock; Anna is in her mother's body and her mother is in her body! After getting over the initial shock they must try to live each other's lives. At first they are somewhat horrified at how the other lives but as each sees the other's lives they grow to understand each other more.I watched the original 'Freaky Friday' as a child in the seventies and again a few years ago; having watched this new version I'd say it is a reboot rather than a remake the premise is the same most key details have changed. The most obvious difference is that the daughter is noticeably older here which means that it is also aimed at a slightly older audience. The story is fun and provides plenty of laughs as well as a few potentially cringe inducing moments involving the boy Anna fancies. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis do great jobs especially when their characters have swapped bodies and each must play somebody of a very different age. The supporting cast is pretty solid too; especially Mark Harmon who plays Tess's fiancé. Overall this fill is a lot of fun without featuring anything that is likely to offend.
A Friday on which mother and daughter switch bodies is certainly freaky. But you know what is more freaky? A teenage boy falls in love with both mother and daughter in a short time without any confusion! The plot is just unconvincing. Besides, what a pity to see Lindsay Lohan in this movie isn't nice-looking anymore. Personally, I like her in The Parent Trap very much.
I feel that I could honestly call this one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. "Freaky Friday" stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who end up inside each other's bodies, see what each other's daily life is really like, and switch back through the power of love. It's a simple enough story that's been done, but this film takes advantage it. Lohan and Curtis are both very good at seeming as though they are really inside each other's bodies. Putting them in implausible situations (such as the daughter in the mother's body having to go on live TV) are unexpected scenes that end up bringing big laughs. The ending is the usual, involving the mother and daughter coming to a greater understanding of each other, but this one might actually bring a few tears. Jamie Lee Curtis is hilarious in her imitation of a teenage daughter, and her scenes of trying to adapt to situations at work or at home are some of the funniest in the movie. This is Lindsay Lohan's best film since "The Parent Trap," and both of these films are remakes that actually prove to be better than their originals. It's not absolutely perfect, since some of the material can be a little over-the-top at unnecessary times, but it's still very enjoyable. All ages alike will find something to enjoy here.
