Best movie of this year hands down!
Pretty Good
Just perfect...
A Masterpiece!
The film has an interesting premise: a man in distress agrees to have the man who raped his wife killed and is then blackmailed into killing a man he is told is a sex offender. After trying to warn the man he is supposed to kill, the man dies trying to fight Nicolas Cage's character off. Cage is later arrested and is helped to escape after a police officer after he repeats a phrase that is a code used by the organisation blackmailing him.The performances by the cast are OK, nothing Oscar-worthy. Editing and cinematography are competent but also lack anything special. The filmmaking is fairly standard: it is technically well made but it feels like a re-tread of previous films, it lacks any creativity. In the end of the film it is revealed that the police officer who helped him escape was a member of the same organisation but in a different faction. I understand the filmmakers preferred to stick to the main character's struggles but it would have made it a lot more interesting if the organisation itself was explored. There are clearly factions within the group. The groups origins, how they knew who the rapist was, if they are active in cities other than New Orleans etc would have, in my opinion, made the film a little more interesting.Overall, this is not by any means a great film. It is not a terrible film either. The idea was good but the film has a lot of room for improvement. Edit: I have rescored this film 5/10 rather than 6/10. After some thought I concluded that 6/10 was a little too generous considering the film is weak and that a 6/10 is an overall positive score whereas I'm pretty much indifferent to it. (04/09/16)
This movie surprised me, since many people claim that Cage only has "bad" films. This one is actually quite good. In fact, I was about to give it an 8, but due a few bad actors I couldn't.I think Cage acted good in this film. The story is easy to follow, so no brain cracking mysteries that make you think by the end of the film "what the hell happened." I really can't stand complex endings. In easy words, it's an enjoyable thriller about a guy who's wife gets raped. In the hospital, this strange guy in a suit does this proposal to kill the rapist for him. As he agrees with doubts, it soon turns out he needs to kill other people for him to repay this civic organization who "seek justice". Of course, he doesn't want to kill people and asks the same guy to get out of his life. If only it was that simple...
Director Roger Donaldson's 2011 mystery thriller-Seeking Justice is woven around High School teacher played by Nicholas Cage and his musician wife played by January Jones. British Cinematographer David Tattersall keeps the viewers on the edge with pan and zoom mode when needed. Film starts off with a man plunging to death when his car was pushed from a multi-level car parking by another SUV. Cage and his wife watch this on television while they are celebrating their marriage anniversary at a club. The couple's normal life is turned upside down when the wife is brutally attacked, raped and maimed by a maniac. Out of the blue a man, who calls himself as Simon played by Guy Pearce, comes to Cage while he was waiting in hospital to get update on his wife's condition and offers to take care of the person who was behind this brutal act. Though initially hesitant about this, Cage finally gives in as his vendetta takes over his consciousness. Who is Simon actually and what he actually does and what he wants in return for eliminating his wife's assailant and what does the code "hungry rabbit jumps" mean is told in an interesting way filled with mystery, thrills and action. Despite its reviews, this movie is really worth watching if you prefer mystery filled thriller.
Will is a high school teacher and is married to Laura who is a musician. The two are in love and have a successful marriage but one night Laura is approached by a stranger who rapes her. Will go to the hospital and is destroyed by these events and while waiting is greeted by a stranger who proposes a deal whereby he will arrange the guilty in exchange for a little work on his part. At first Will refuse but moments later he accepts so the rapist is killed and Simon get in touch with Will so he can respect his part of agreement. The first time he is asked to follow a woman and her daughter then things get serious when he is asked to kill a man who is supposed to be a pedophile. Then finds that the person who Simon told to kill is another man and Will go to prison but with the help of a friend manages to escape and is now seeking the true identity of the victim and why he was framed. Things get complicated when Simon finds and kidnaps his wife and threaten to kill her if he does not give a disc Will found and on it is a recording in witch his peoples are killing a man and their secret will come out.A good thriller in the first 40 minutes but then started to drop and it becomes monotonous and movie seems to stretch but unlike many poor films starring Nicolas Cage lately it seems to be better and manage to keep the spectator in suspense until the end.
