Good start, but then it gets ruined
The first must-see film of the year.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
I can't believe that these actors actually read the script and said ''yes, I'll do that'' and actually did it. This movie isn't funny. It doesn't make sense. In a cartoon like fred flintstone, it's clearly indicated that it's a cartoon and they make all sorts of unrealistic things like using dinosaurs as appliances, or talking to aliens. But this movie just has these moments where you think ''please stop insulting my intelligence''. This movie might be entertaining for an 8 year old, but I think it poisons their mind. It tries to make people think how ''the stay at home dad is a beta male loser who has no backbone, and the alpha male is the cool dude!''. No, the alpha male is the one who raped your mother and hits you, is unemployed and causes you trauma. The ''bad boy'' is not the ''cool father''. And no 40 year old is a beta male loser with no backbone.Apart from that, it just doesn't make sense why they let that bad boy loser in the house. It's like a massive plot hole within a plot hole within a plothole, full of unfunny jokes and cringy moments.
I found this funnier than most critics did, but it's one of Will Ferrell's better recent comedic films, and adding Mark Wahlberg to the equation made this film a hit for me. Great laughs and simple fun. A well deserved 8/10 from me
Daddy's Home (2015) is a meaningful and funny movie. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg performed well in this movie. The movie has it's fun moments and sentimental moments. The Climax of this movie will put a smile on your face. It's a film that every father should see because it contains a beautiful message for them. So feel free to watch the movie with your family and have a good time.
There's no denying that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are comedy magic. I've seen them be funny before in The Other Guys, a movie that isn't groundbreaking by any means but is admittedly much better than this movie. In Daddy's Home, I don't see that magic. So the plot is basically about Will Ferrell who has a smoking hot wife (Linda Cardellini) and two step-kids. Just when he thinks his life is perfect, Cardellini's ex-husband (Mark Wahlberg) shows up for no real reason to stay with the family indefinitely. Need I go on? This is basically Jack and Jill without Adam Sandler. I absolutely despise the characters. They are atrocious. The wife is bar none the worst character in the whole movie. In the beginning, she warns Ferrell about her ex-husband, but ends up siding with Wahlberg and even takes him back after throwing Ferrell out of the house. The acting is solid, except for the kids. They are everything you hate in child actors. They're just annoying as hell. I forgot to mention how unfunny this movie is. This movie goes for every crude PG-13 joke in the book, plus some second grade poop jokes and characters talking about impotency. Some the things that happen to Ferrell and Wahlberg that are so ridiculously cartoonish that you have wonder what reality this movie is set in. The part where Will Ferrell drunkenly lashes out at Wahlberg and accidentally throws a basketball at a cheerleader and a disabled kid is the most painful scene in the whole movie. There is a funny joke once in a while (most notably from Hannibal Buress), but that's not saying much. I found this movie to be more mean-spirited than funny. How on Earth do people think this is a family movie? It's too vulgar and mean-spirited for kids and too stupid for their parents. What is wrong with entertainment right now?
